The Forensic Clinical Psychologist will provide specialist support and advice to investigations that fall within the NCA agreed criteria for support to police forces and law enforcement agencies in the UK as it relates to serious and series crime and other complex investigations including cross-border and high profile offences, which include sexually related murder, rapes, series sexual offences, abduction, serial arson, suspicious missing persons and no body murder investigations.

Job description

The FCP will contribute to the tactical and strategic development of forensic clinical psychology in liaison with National SIO Adviser.

Provide interview strategy and risk assessment advice, through an analytical problem solving approach combining statistical data, research and previous experience, challenging underlying assumptions made by the investigation, and producing written reports detailing the results and recommendations within agreed Terms of Reference, with due regard to the potential impact of such advice.

Take a leading role in the strategic development of FCP support to serious crime investigations, including consultation with external experts, multi-agency partnerships, review of current and future developments within the field, liaison with academic institutions, professional bodies, Police Forces and other key customers and stakeholders. This will also involve the supply and review of relevant performance indicators specific to FCP provision and effective succession planning and mentorship duties.

Assess the needs of every investigation requesting FCP support and deliver appropriate levels of response and support to those investigating major crime and/or critical incidents, ensuring the most efficient and effective allocation of resources capable of meeting the identified objectives. This will involve meeting and consulting with Senior Investigating Officers (SIO) and coordinating service provision with other colleagues in unit and external expertise from the Expert Advisers Database.

Maintain close liaison with Behavioural Investigative Advisers (BIAs), providing clinical expertise and support upon request of BIA colleagues on a case by case basis and establishing and promoting best practice in the provision of multi-disciplinary behavioural advice. This will involve recognising and maximising opportunities for cross fertilisation to enhance knowledge and capabilities of all staff.

Maintain close liaison with the National Interview Adviser to establish and promote best practice in the provision of multi-disciplinary interview strategy advice.

Comply with all health and safety policy and legislation in the performance of the duties of the post and take reasonable care of themselves at work and others who may be affected by their actions or omissions.”

• Awareness of police investigative roles, processes, terminology and procedures with particular emphasis towards major crime investigations.
• Ability of producing and communicating high quality, clearly structured, logical reports and presentations using verbal and written skills. Working with sensitive/confidential material, high workloads and working under pressure to strict deadlines.
• Experience in translating complex literature into actionable reports for practitioners. Identifying risks whilst suggesting control measures for partners.
• Significant experience in Court work and the assessment and treatment of offenders/patients in a high secure setting. Also experience as a Consultant in a Clinical Practice.

You will also have the below qualifications or skills:

Essential Qualifications

• Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration as Practitioner Psychologist in Clinical Psychology with substantial experience in forensic clinical settings.
• Psych.D or equivalent doctoral level qualification.

This role will be a mobile worker and when not deployed operationally you will work from home.

Qualifications

The following qualifications/skills are essential to the role and proof will be required at interview:

• Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration as Practitioner Psychologist in Clinical Psychology with substantial experience in forensic clinical settings.
• Psych.D or equivalent doctoral level qualification.
