THE DIRECTOR OF INTERNATIONAL CAPABILITY POSITION IS APPOINTED ON A FIXED TERM CONTRACT ALIGNED WITH THE FUNDING CYCLE.
SALARY ADVERTISED IS PER ANNUM. IT WILL BE PRO RATA ACCORDING TO TIME OF JOINING.
The role requires an individual with a comprehensive understanding of the defence sector both internationally and nationally. In addition, a strong technological understanding is required to facilitate the alignment of future national and international capability needs and promote international collaboration.
Director of International Strategic Capability – Responsibilities:
- Identification and leadership of strategic capability themes
- Management of special interest groups in support of key capability themes and ensuring UKDSC views are shared by key industry stakeholders.
- Interface with overseas customers and UK Government representatives (UK and overseas) and driving co-operation to mature requirements from suspect to prospect and handing off to industry stakeholders to take forward as an opportunity.
- Develop strategic capability development roadmaps utilising data derived from market intelligence, technology and innovation roadmaps and data provided from industry stakeholders.
- Provision of appropriate indicators to the innovation and investment team to support prioritisation of investment between industry and UK MOD and potential 3rd party sources of funding.
- Work collaboratively with the Executive board to ensure the aims of the UKDSC are clearly defined and meet the required benchmark standards and achieve milestones as required by the DGP
- Manage and develop the Capability Development Team to maximise organisational and personal potential.
Director of International Strategic Capability – essential skills and experience
- Must be a British Citizen (UK Eyes Only) with SC Clearance
- Minimum of 10-15 years international experience in the defence sector
- Strong network within the defence sector and experience of interfacing with Government entities.
- Strong strategic planning skills combined with an awareness of technology trends and other external contexts which require agile adaption of strategic approach.
- Exceptional communication skills and capacity to construct a systematic and structured approach to international engagements.
- Previous experience at senior executive level within a management committee or board structure.
- Experience of presenting and interacting with senior stakeholders across industry, MOD and Government officials at ministerial level.
- Extensive experience of international defence programmes, international cooperative programme dynamics and local customs and practices.
- Sound experience of managing and developing management information systems and reporting.
- Experience of working with cross functional teams.
