Field Service Engineer

Our client is a worldwide operation producing high value computer controlled electromechanical systems incorporating laser technology for rapid prototyping and manufacturing. With a first-class reputation and recognised as leaders in their market area, the client has, and is continuing to enjoy growth in demand for their machines. Demand for machines comes from a variety of industries including the Aerospace, Automotive, Medical, Tooling and Lifestyle sectors. With ongoing contractual maintenance and repair contracts in place, in addition to new orders, a further Field Service Engineer is required to join the team.

The job requirement is for a well presented, organised and self-motivated Field Service Engineer (FSE) to work both within a small professional team and also independently at various customer sites. The FSE's conduct should be in accordance with the company's goals and values and comply with the company's health and safety policy. The position is home based; however, the UK office is based in the South Midlands. The work area primarily covers various customer sites within the UK with the potential requirement of short-term working at some of our international customers. The candidate is expected to work pro-actively supporting our customers in the installation, system introduction, maintenance, upgrading and repair of their systems together with technical support on site and remotely.

The candidate is expected to have a minimum of an ONC/HNC in an electrical / mechanical discipline coupled with excellent analytical problem-solving skills and be proactive when dealing with all types of problems. A sound background in both Electrical and Mechanical disciplines should be complemented with a good understanding of computer systems and basic network architecture. Candidates should be experienced with the installation and maintenance of high value capital equipment and possess excellent fault diagnosis skills with the ability to read and interpret electrical circuit diagrams. An understanding of PLC controlled systems (not programming), a basic understanding of pneumatics, temperature control, system calibration and process optimisation experience would be very beneficial. Initial extensive system training is provided.

Candidates must have excellent computer skills (PC, MS Windows, MS Office) and be flexible and willing to travel; 70% of working time is expected to be customer based. The candidate should have a methodical approach and be able to demonstrate strong customer communication skills with an excellent command of written and spoken English. They are also expected to be competent at basic Mathematics. A valid driving licence is obviously essential.
