About the job Summary

As an experienced Intelligence Officer, your role will be to collect, evaluate, develop and exploit intelligence in support of the NCA’s mission. You undertake intelligence development work on projects and operations to contribute to the National Strategic Assessment, Annual Plan, National Intelligence Requirements and National Control Strategy to drive business and aid the fight to cut serious and organised crime.

Job description

There are a number of roles available within several different departments.

• National Data Exploitation Capability - (NDEC) is a multidisciplinary team made up of data and technology professionals, intelligence officers and analysts, data management officers and business enablement specialists transforming how the NCA and wider UK Law Enforcement community operate.

By partnering with other organisations, and using advanced data analytics and data science techniques, NDEC creates insights that disrupt and detect serious and organised crime (SOC). NDEC is also responsible for managing the acquisition of data to exploit and enhance the understanding of these SOC threats. NDEC Operational teams are supported by NDEC HQ, a business enablement capability driving NDEC to be more efficient and effective in their work.

• National Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU) - leads the UK’s fight against cybercrime and uses specialist capabilities and expertise to support law enforcement partners across the UK and coordinate the entire UK response to cybercrime. Officers across the NCCU Intelligence teams will be expected to de conflict intelligence products and contribute to the acquisition and development of tactical and strategic intelligence, focused on serious and organised crime affecting the UK. A background in Cyber is not required to join NCCU Intelligence. Each officer is provided with a bespoke training package to get you job ready and continuous Professional Development is supported whilst in post.

• DV security clearance will be required / need to be attained for some roles.
 

Responsibilities

What will I be doing?

You will be carry out cross-source data exploitation, delivery and dissemination of intelligence relating to serious and organised crime. Your work will play a key role in supporting activity to combat serious and organised crime, both tactically and strategically. You will interact with other NCA departments and teams, and external partners including government, Law Enforcement, UK Intelligence Community, public, private and third sector partners.

You will be playing a key role in supporting analytic teams with the tasking of intelligence assets and collection of information.

NDEC is at the centre of the Agency’s plans to exploit all-source intelligence and bulk data to identify those individuals posing the highest threat, risk and harm to the UK and its partners. Working closely alongside data science specialists you will be in a unique position to identify new datasets and apply innovative analytical techniques to inform the decision making of the Agency and wider government.

You will be responsible for identifying and developing the highest harm networks and working closely with other teams to develop them into operational packages for investigating officers.

Qualifications

The following qualifications/skills are essential to the role and proof will be required before interview:

• IPP Intelligence Officer accreditation or equivalent experience as listed in the Technical Criteria

Please Note: If you do not have IPP your equivalent experience will be assessed from your responses to the technical criteria.

All of our Intelligence Officers are required to hold Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) accreditation for the relevant role or be able to provide evidence of the equivalent experience within the answers to the technical criteria. This evidence should have been attained within the last 1 to 2 years.”

• Good knowledge of data management within law enforcement, defence or national security.
• A sound understanding of the Cyber Crime landscape, emerging techniques and the threat to the UK.

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is SECURITY CHECK (SC)
