About the role

Have you ever considered how the components, systems and interfaces are managed through operational life in the most complex man-made engineering asset in use by the Royal Navy today? Here at Babcock International we are looking to recruit two Concession and Defect Investigation Engineers to join our skilled team working within our Marine Business Unit based at either Bristol, Clyde or Devonport.

As the Concession and Defect Investigation Engineer, you will be talented and meticulous with a strong Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) background to join our Technical Team. You will manage complex assets on a daily basis by ensuring that operational failures and design defects, identified by the assets are captured, processed and investigated, such that guidance can be given on the appropriate engineering solutions.

Working for the UK's leading naval support business, you will be joining a team of likeminded Engineers with unrivalled engineering and technical skills to support the delivery of In-Service Support to a variety of Nations and Naval Vessels across the world. In addition, we will provide you with all the training, support and benefits that you would expect from a global company.

What do I need to do the role?
You'll need a Foundation Degree in a relevant STEM discipline or be qualified to HNC / BTEC Level 5 in a relevant STEM discipline with demonstrable experience in a relevant engineering field.

We would also like you to have the following:
  • Proficient in the use of appropriate Project Management & IT tools.
  • Experience within the Defence Industry and an understanding of MOD working practices.
  • Experience of Royal Navy submarines from a design, maintenance or operational perspective

Lastly, you'll be an excellent communicator and able to articulate complex arguments for a wide range of stakeholders to understand. You'll need to be able demonstrate the motivation to drive issues to completion and to continue your professional development.

What else do I need to know?

  • The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. You must be a sole UK national and hold or be capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
  • The post may be based in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. This may require you to meet enhanced security and regular screening checks.
