Project Planners play a key role in delivering advice and guidance to the project/programme leaders and their teams on how to best deliver the required outputs, products and activities within the scope of the plan within the Home Office Transformation Portfolio. It is large, complex and challenging, encompassing over 20 major and/or mission-critical projects and programmes plus four business portfolios of change.

There is a strong focus on agile, modular project delivery, supported by enterprise-wide portfolio management and you could find yourself working on a project for the UK???s critical national infrastructure through to a complex technology-enabled business change programme.

 

The Role of a Project Planner

Your role as Project Planner will be to work with stakeholders to ensure all aspects of the project are defined. You will provide clarity on key milestones to define what, when and how activities will be organised to ensure the outcomes of a project can be achieved, with the resources available.

 

Essential Criteria and competencies:

  • The planner will be part of 5 programmes and work alongside the PM???s and Programme leads
  • The portfolio covers large scale IT programmes
  • Previous Planning experience up to Portfolio level
  • An expert and highly proficient In MS Project/Online
  • Skilled in dependencies and critical path analysis
  • Skilled in reporting
  • Generate MI reports and present to stakeholders and suppliers up to the board, leadership level
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Proactiveness
  • Coaching and guidance within the planning space to the wider teams

Typical Role Responsibilities:

Development and enhancement and ongoing review and assurance of the Portfolio existing project plans.

  • Develop and maintain Programme/Portfolio plan. Work closely with Project Managers providing senior leadership with advice to enable forward-looking strategic delivery decisions.
  • Develop and extend the Programme plans and conduct ongoing reviews, enhancements and assurance of the plan.
  • Work with Project managers/Programme Leads to develop detailed plans for the national rollout and identify resources, dependencies and risks.
  • Maintain defined planning standards and planning best practices by working closely with the Programme Management Office.
  • Stakeholder engagement to ensuring programme and project plans remain synchronised
  • Run weekly checkpoint meetings and calls.
  • Ensuring level 0, level 1 and level 2 milestones remain aligned.
  • Capture resource requirements in the plans to enable the programme to report accurately assessing the current and future resourcing demands.
  • Report and escalate, as required, detailing overdue and pending tasks
  • Proactively escalate risks, issues and constraints within the plan that will affect approach or milestone delivery.
  • Capture updates from resources/suppliers as needed.
  • Critically review supplier plans and identify issues or inconsistencies as needed.
  • Identify, record and actively manage dependencies (give and get) outside the programme as well as internal to the programmes.
  • Capture and escalate dependencies through the risk process and risk manager as appropriate.
  • Review and assurance of programme dependency log and provision of feedback to the appropriate project lead.
