At MI6, it's up to us to protect the UK from overseas threats. We ensure we have the right people in the right places to do the job, whether that's at home or abroad. Our support teams here in the UK play a vital role in the success of our operations. As a Facilities Operative, your enthusiasm for the role will be matched by your commitment to MI6's overall mission, to keep the country safe.

The role

Your priorities will span across driving, mailroom duties and additional maintenance requests. You'll spend a considerable amount of time driving, so you'll need to be confident behind the wheel. You'll also take on mailroom and courier duties, which include the collection and delivery of post and stationary stock control.

While these will be your key responsibilities, you'll also undertake general housekeeping, such as facilitating office moves, furniture assembly and day-to-day maintenance. You may also be required to carry equipment, as well as move rubbish, crates and furniture.

There will be training opportunities available to you as a forklift, minibus and 7.5 tonne lorry driver. You'll also have the opportunity to learn professional skills in painting and decorating, carpet tiling and Portable Appliance Testing (PAT).

About you

You don't need a specific background for this role. Instead, it's all about being a real team player. You'll also need to be a good communicator as you'll talk to a variety of people. Plus, you'll need to be comfortable being customer-facing, as you'll engage with colleagues across the organisation. You'll also need to show good practical facilities skills and have knowledge of health and safety best practice. A full UK driving licence is essential, while a forklift licence and a Prefabricated Access Suppliers and Manufacturers Association Certification (PASMA) would be useful but not essential.

Benefits

You'll receive a starting salary of £28,025 inclusive of local pay addition and overtime opportunities, and other benefits including:

• A desirable pension scheme
• Shared parental leave and adoption leave
• 25 days of annual leave (rising to 30 days after 5 years' service) in addition to 10.5 days public and privilege holidays
• Interest-free season ticket loan
• Access to on site gym, restaurant, and coffee bar
• Financial support for learning and development

Culture, Support and Working Environment

MI6 has a serious job to do, but that doesn't mean we're serious all the time. We work in an informal and collaborative environment where friendships develop easily - perhaps because we can only talk about our work with each other, but mainly because we're a welcoming organisation. It's a very supportive place to work and teamwork really is key.

We are also working hard to ensure we are a diverse, fully representative organisation, where people feel comfortable, that they can bring their whole self to work. Aside from fostering a welcoming and open culture, we've got a range of growing affinity groups ran by staff, from gender equality to LGBTQ+, race, religion and disability.

You'll also find a range of sports and social groups to help you settle in and connect with people with similar interests.

Before You Apply

To work at MI6, you need to be a British citizen and you'll need a real passion for the role. We do have a strict drugs policy, so once you start your application, you can't take any recreational drugs and you'll need to declare your previous drug usage at the relevant stage.

Honesty and integrity are really important if you want to work at MI6. Take some time to read about the vetting process and make sure you meet the criteria in the vetting pages of the ' Apply Now ' section. The process can take some time, but this is just because it's thorough. Giving misleading information and omitting or concealing information during the recruitment and vetting process is viewed very seriously.

The role is based in MI6, so you'll need to live within a commutable distance. Please consider any financial implications and practicalities before submitting an application. We unfortunately don't cover relocation costs.

Due to the sensitive nature of our work, you'll need to be discreet. But don't worry - while you can't tell your friends what you do, you can continue to use social media and lead a completely normal life.

Equal Opportunities

At MI6 diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. To protect the UK, we need a truly diverse workforce that reflects the society we serve. This includes diversity in every sense of the word: those with different backgrounds, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, ways of thinking and those with disabilities or neurodiverse conditions. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups that are under-represented in our workforce.

We're Disability Confident

As a Disability Confident leader, we will ensure that a fair and proportionate number of disabled applicants that meet the minimum criteria for this position will be offered an interview. This is known as Offer of an Interview.

To secure an interview for this role, the minimum criteria (in order of application process) are:

• Passing the application sift.
• Having a valid UK driving license with no more than 3 penalty points.

Our commitment demonstrates the importance we place on equal opportunities and it means that we also:

• Ensure accessible formats are available
• Offer alternative ways of carrying out different recruitment processes
• Provide equipment where requested
