Energy & Marine (E&M) is a business unit within the Marine Division of Babcock International Group. E&M Engineering is a leading design consultancy providing naval architecture, marine, system engineering, electrical engineering design and project support services to the marine and defence markets worldwide. We have vast experience in engineering, construction, concept design and through life support for a wide range of front line naval and auxiliary support vessels.

The Division is expanding rapidly with complex, high-profile defence projects including Type 31 Frigate Design & Build Programme and the Successor Programme as well as providing engineering services to the UK Surface Ship and Submarine fleet. Therefore, we are looking to grow our existing team, building on a well-established foundation of over 700 staff across the UK.

Main Purpose

We are looking for a Project Control Lead to be responsible for applying requirements management, budgeting & cost control, financial management, change management and benefits management independently, primarily in complex situations across P3M, for the Type 31 Programme.

You will have the ability to develop and agree scope/budgets for projects and/or programmes, controlling forecast and actual costs against them. This includes the provision of risk and opportunity analysis on these budgets in addition to change management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on provision of project controls in the specified functional area
  • Provision of weekly and monthly performance & cost reports and associated analysis/narrative.
  • Develop/implement and maintain the Project Baseline Budgets including Control Account Plans/Responsibility Assignment Matrix and WBS Dictionary (SOW)
  • Collate change requests and ensure timely submission to the change board
  • Develop and maintain Project Risk & Opportunity registers and manage the mitigation actions

What do I need to do the role?

Preferably, you will hold a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering / Project / Construction Management or a related field. You will hold a professional qualification (e.g. APMQ/APMP/Prince2/Acoste/RICS). You will have essential, proven experience in a Project Management, Project Controls and Stakeholder Management. In addition, you will have experience applying budgeting and cost control in a complex environment.

You will have adaptability, initiative and problem solving capability. Experience of cost management, estimating, quantity surveying and quantitative risk analysis. Ability to work under pressure in an environment, which expects high levels of confidentiality and ethical behaviour. In addition, you will have knowledge of engineering and it would be advantageous for you to have experience working in a highly regulated environment.

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
