Operations Manager

Location: Lambeth

Job type: Permanent, full-time

Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday with weekend work on a rota basis.

Salary: £40,000-£45,000

Start Date: 1st October 2021. Please note you will be required to attend a training day in the 2 weeks before this date.

Serco's Environmental Services provide a complete waste and recycling service on behalf of the residents and community in Lambeth. With a professional, dedicated and friendly team of Refuse and Recycling and Street Cleansing staff, we ensure that streets, homes and businesses are kept clean, safe and tidy, whilst providing the very best levels of customer service to all members of the community that we serve. And right now, we have an opportunity for like-minded Operations Managers to join our team of essential key workers and help us make a positive difference to the environment we all live and work in.

Reporting to the Contract Manager, you will provide operational management, conduct regular team meetings, monitoring and taking action to ensure business targets are met, including submitting accurate and timely reports to senior management.

You will also implement rigorous processes for performance and measurement utilising and/or developing the appropriate suite of KPIs and using the data to drive decision making and operational improvements.

A large part of the role will involve developing and maintaining a network of positive working relationships with the customer, potential customers, partners and stakeholders, including trade union representatives, in order to anticipate and meet customer and stakeholders' existing and future needs.

We know that Environmental Services workers are our community's unsung heroes and it can be pretty hard work, but we can offer you the opportunity to go home each day with a sense of community spirit, pride in your work, belonging within a supportive and diverse team and the knowledge that your work is making a difference in helping to promote a cleaner, greener living and working space for everyone in Lambeth.

In addition to job satisfaction, we also offer a fantastic work/life balance. With pre-planned routes and set start and finish times, there are no nasty surprises or late finishes with Serco, leaving you with plenty of time to spend with your family and friends.

You won't be doing this alone either. Our team is made up of professional, friendly, and supportive teammates, including managers who began their careers with Serco as Operations Managers and now hold Contract Manager and Senior Contract Manager titles.

We are dedicated to the ongoing development and career progression of our teams, with outstanding training opportunities made available to you, along with the chance to undertake additional qualifications. These include, but are not limited to, HGV Class 2 Driver Training, Transport Manager CPC, and a supportive management team who will provide guidance and advice to ensure you achieve all that you want to with Serco.

What do I need to do the role?

To be considered for a position within our team, you will have previous experience of providing operational management to large teams of blue collar workers and hold a Management Level 3 qualification.

You should be a CPC Licence holder with the ability to confidently manage budget, forecasting and P&L in collaboration with the Senior Contract Manager.

We are looking to hear from candidates who are flexible with shift patterns and have the willingness to go the extra mile when required. You will be expected to be someone who can demonstrate strong customer service skills and are happy in dealing with members of the public.

Previous experience of working within Environmental Services is not essential as we will provide any additional training you may need.
