Job Description Summary Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Stress Engineer will be part of Dowty Propellers' experienced engineering team. The role is broad in scope, covering everything from tools development and new product introduction, to supporting OE production, repair operations and customer operations. The successful candidate will be suitably experienced to work quickly towards Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE) status, under delegated authority from the Head of Airworthiness to support certification of new product and modifications.
Job Description Responsibilities include:
Compliance verification of modifications to satisfy stress certification requirements of the regulatory authorities
Providing stress analysis for modification proposals for propeller system structural and mechanical modifications and enhancements.
Reviewing and approving structural substantiation documentation produced by other members of staff or by suppliers to provide assurance of compliance with relevant customer and regulatory requirements.
Progressing structural and mechanical design modifications in accordance with regulatory requirements, providing signature approval of all pertinent design documentation.
Overseeing of design process from concept phase through to completion to ensure regulatory compliance is achieved
Liaison with other departments and OEM's re damage/defect investigations and corrective actions
Able to work towards MRB approval status for OE production and repair
Supporting to formal customer reviews and SPMT
Assisting on projects in the Bid/Proposal process to ensure robust Basis of Estimate (BOE).
Support analysis tools development, technical instructions and general stress methods
Degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or equivalent
A high level of relevant experience in aerospace or high integrity stress analysis roles
Track record of signatory responsibility within the aerospace industry including approval of technical reports, drawings and Compliance Verification Experience of working with multi discipline technical teams and individuals
Extensive experience required as Stress Engineer at a senior level within the aerospace industry and able to demonstrate knowledge of and hands on capability of both classical hand calculation procedures and finite element methods.
Analysis experience and approval of wide range of composite and metallic aircraft structure, preferably for rotating machinery
Extensive experience in Design Organisation at signatory level, able to demonstrate a comprehensive working knowledge of EASA Part 21J and BACR A8-21 airworthiness requirements.
Knowledge of design analysis methods for repair to metallic and composite components, including internal and external repairs
Established engineering capability and someone who can anticipate problems and plan to mitigate
An able communicator in verbal, written and presentational forms
A logical problem solver who can operate effectively under stretching project constraints
High degree of commercial awareness with the ability to recognise and manage change, during the project cycle.
Excellent Communication skills - written and verbal at all levels within the organisation to Board level and with the customer
Commercially astute with excellent negotiation skills
Capable of managing and motivating a diverse team in the delivery of innovative solutions
Knowledge of composite materials and associated analysis methods.
Detailed knowledge of Catia modelling, meshing techniques and Ansys analysis tools
Knowledge of specialist non-linear methods, such as Dyna 3D
