Job Description Summary As a Medical Physicist, you will manage the technology input for the development of new imaging contrast and molecular imaging tracers throughout the preclinical, clinical and post marketing phases of diagnostic contrast agents. For this role, expertise in Nuclear Medicine (PET, SPECT and planar) and CT/X-Ray is required. Experience of clinical workflows, Nuclear Medicine imaging and personalized dosimetry are required. This individual will work closely with the global Imaging Technology Group within R&D reporting to the Head of Imaging Technology. The role is based in the GE Healthcare office in Amersham, United Kingdom.

Job Description Responsibilities
  • Understanding imaging-related project needs as expressed in a clinical study protocol. Ability to translate clinical end points to an imaging strategy and further to formalize this in a study imaging manual and quality manual and training material.
  • Technical expertise in Nuclear Medicine and CT/X-Ray procedures including knowledge of routine clinical scanning protocols and the ability to optimize scanner parameters.
  • Support senior members of the team with the development of the project strategy.
  • Set the requirements for execution of imaging at clinical sites and ensure that these are recorded in critical documents, such as clinical protocols, imaging manuals etc.
  • Set the requirements for the execution of imaging at clinical sites, including providing 'hands-on' technical support to sites.
  • Provide training, teaching and problem-solving solutions to internal and external clinical operations teams and relevant staff at participating clinical study centers to fulfill the needs of the clinical study.
  • Travel regularly to international and domestic clinical study sites to assist with or perform their initiation and training. In certain cases, the site training may need to be performed remotely (i.e. via telephone, web conference, telepresence or similar). 
  • Maintain competence in the modality associated with the position (e.g., through a Continuous Professional Development programme).
  • Image data management in support of clinical studies for internal and external customers according to Good Clinical Practice and company procedures and guidelines.
  • Self-motivated, willingness to take the initiative to identify opportunities for improvement and take actions to improve.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including, team working skills and good communication skills.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with the respective staff participating in this development including the Imaging Technology Leaders, Project Stream Leaders, the Project Director, Clinical Study Team Leader, Clinical Research Associates, relevant staff at participating clinical study centers in order to fulfill the needs of the clinical study.
  • In-depth expertise and hands on experience in scanner qualification (phantom imaging and analysis) and image Quality Control.

Qualifications and experience
  • MSc or PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant science discipline such as Medical Physics, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Biophysics or a related discipline.
  • Strong physics background and experience in Nuclear Medicine imaging techniques.
  • Proven expertise with analyzing Nuclear Medicine images within routine clinical practice.
  • Nuclear Medicine imaging (PET, SPECT and planar), therapy and personalized dosimetry experience.
  • In-depth expertise and hands on experience in scanner qualification (phantom imaging and analysis) and image Quality Control (QC).
  • Knowledge in the scientific and clinical research of diagnostic imaging agents.
  • A high degree of initiative and the ability to work systematically and independently is expected.
  • Experience with Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) and PACS systems.

Desirable skills
  • Relevant professional qualifications and certifications (e.g., State Registration as a Clinical Scientist or Board Certification, Member or Fellow in an appropriate professional body, licensed technologist or radiographer).
  • Experience with authoring clinical study manuals (e.g. imaging manual, blinded image review charters or image acquisition protocol) and understanding of both qualitative and quantitative imaging endpoints.
  • Sufficient knowledge of anatomy and physiology and its importance to medical imaging (e.g. cardiovascular, abdominal imaging, neurology etc.)
  • Software experience with programming languages (MatLab, Freesurfer, C++, Python, IDL etc.).
  • Ability to multitask and to work effectively during demanding situations.
  • Familiarity with commercializing scientific ideas and/or previous industrial experience and communication with clinical/ healthcare experts.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, matrixed, and customer focused environment; and experience with cross-site research collaborations Prior experience working at an imaging core lab or similar environment.
  • Experience working in one other modality such as Ultrasound, MRI. Experience with writing clinical study manuals (e.g. imaging manual or image acquisition protocol).
  • Experience creating and editing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
