Job Details

As a result of an Internal Promotion ICT have a vacancy for an ICT Support Engineer based at our Bedfordshire HQ in Kempston.

Reporting to the ICT Support Team Leader Central you will be a vital part of the ICT Operations Team supporting the Constabulary's desktop and mobile estate and ensuring that vital business software is highly available to staff and officers.

You will be required to work 37 hours a week between the hours of 8am till 5pm. You will also be required to participate in out of hours support on a rota basis which will include weekends.

Key Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
  • Providing technical support via the ICT Service Desk, ensuring fault calls and requests for help and advice are resolved and actioned within agreed time limits.
  • Ensuring a good level of communication with customers on a regular basis when working on a fault or a request.
  • Providing 2nd line support and technical advice including diagnostics and analysis on hardware and software issues, drawing on support experience to include complete desktop and mobile equipment installations as well as carrying out the repair, installation and relocation of hardware and software.
  • Escalate issues to and work with specialist technical teams to resolve more complex issues.
  • Carry out daily housekeeping, routine system administration, and data processing functions, documenting of procedures, communicating with suppliers and subject to instruction, the installation of new software to ensure the efficient running of the systems.
  • Updating of records of Constabulary assets in a centralised database and other key systems to ensure changes carried out as part of support procedures are accurately reflected.
  • The requirement to work at and travel to remote locations, sometimes on a Rota basis providing a local support service to users based at that location, so a full clean driving license is essential.

The successful candidate must have the following skills and experiences:
  • Educated to A-level or equivalent (Inc. Maths & English) or proven written and numeric skills
  • At least 2 years' IT support experience working in a Microsoft Windows environment.
    At least 1 years' experience of hardware (desktop/ server/laptop) fault finding and fault resolution
  • Experience of complete desktop and mobile equipment installations, diagnostics, repair and re-imaging
  • Customer Service Qualification or 2 years' experience within customer service environment
    Self-motivated and well organised
  • Previous experience of working in a team
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision even when under pressure
