Here at Serco we're experts in designing, implementing, and managing waste and recycling services, and right now we're recruiting for a Contract Manager for our Derbyshire Dales contract. We provide a complete grounds maintenance, street cleansing and waste and recycling collection service, striving to minimise waste and maximise participation in recycling.

Reporting to the Regional Director you will lead, manage and be responsible for the performance of an outsourced, local authority contract portfolio including approximately120 blue collar staff in environmental waste and recycling collection service provision within a demanding commercial environment.

You will champion the process of increasing the rate of recycling/composting for municipal waste and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, ensuring that any KPI performance requirements are met, drive for change and innovation in the Contract in order to meet challenges for the future and develop and maintain effective relationships with local authority, community and internal stakeholders at all levels.

In addition to this, the successful candidate will identify commercial planning requirements and opportunities in service areas, implement exemplary service standards to monitor, review and benchmark service delivery, ensure all employees have access to adequate training and career development plans and be accountable for and constantly monitor financial and operational performance to ensure all operations and methods are cost effective and efficient and meeting targets.

The role will entail producing management reports, managing all staff and equipment resources and manage the absence and welfare of all employees.

You'll have the autonomy to create and implement a strategy for success - but you won't be doing it alone. You'll be joining a supportive team and company that is passionate about the delivery of public services. And with ongoing training and development, and over 150 other contracts held in the UK, this is just the start of your contract management career within Serco.

We are happy to accomodate flexible working, with 1 work from home day per week.

About You

In order to be considered for this position, we ask that candidates have a Senior Operations Manager or Leadership background from within an outsourced, multi discipline business, preferably within Environmental Services or Logistics, with strong fleet management experience and experience of managing local authority client relationships at all levels.

You must have experience of managing a unionised blue collar workforce and hold, or be willing to work towards your Transport Manager CPC. The role demands day to day operational management as well as Health and Safety and Fleet management, so this experience is essential.

We are keen to hear from applicants with experience of business development and transformation, leading on operational changes, continuous improvement and project management/facilitation, and managing strong working relationships with trade unions, to include pay negotiations and terms and conditions, etc.

Here at Serco, we are dedicated to our ongoing Diversity and Inclusion initiative and ask that candidates are able to clearly demonstrate their success in this area.
