Job Description Summary We are looking for Lead Systems Engineers to grow and develop our engineering talent and build inclusive, high-performing cross functional teams. You will lead teams that design and develop Controls based products for the Power Distribution and Controls business of GE Aviation Systems based in Cheltenham.
You will drive technical and process excellence and be responsible for the delivery of assigned technical aspects of projects, spanning multiple products across our global business. You will collaborate with Engineering Managers, Project Managers, Technical Leads and Chief Engineers to deliver on customer needs. In addition, you'll be involved in initiatives to improve team performance and lean out engineering processes.
We require that you have a Systems and/or Software Engineering background in a formal/regulated development environment such as Aviation, Automotive or Healthcare.

Job Description Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership acting as the technical systems focal within the assigned project team
  • Work with Project Managers, Technical Leads and Chief Engineers to build and deliver on project plan
  • Lead the team through the development of systems engineering project plans
  • Capture, understand and document stakeholders' requirements
  • Lead requirements activities along the project lifecycle, including requirements creation, trace, maintenance, tools development, generation of reports and health check assessments
  • Create system architectures and designs which specify control, display, monitoring and built in test functions for implementation in electronic hardware and software
  • Plan and perform systems verification activities
  • Perform system analysis, modelling and simulation activities

Qualifications / Requirements
  • Relevant degree from an accredited university or college or an equivalent amount of related experience
  • Systems and/or Software engineering background in a formal/regulated development environment such as Aviation, Automotive or Healthcare
  • Proven experience in a program or project leadership role
  • Detailed understanding of the product development lifecycle
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated effective team building ability
  • Receptive to new concepts and ideas
  • Speaks with candour and transparency

Desired Characteristics
  • Knowledge of safety and certification processes within an aviation environment
  • Knowledge of requirements management methodologies and tools (e.g. DOORS)
  • Knowledge of system design methodologies and tools (e.g. SysML/UML based tools, MATLAB Simulink)
