About the role
Here at Babcock International, we are looking to recruit a Head of Finance to join our Rail division, based in Hamilton, Central Scotland
In this role, you will be responsible for taking the lead on all aspects of finance activity within the Rail organisation
This is a strategically focussed role, with an emphasis on driving the business forward and making a positive impact on the top, and bottom line of the business stream.
Forming part of the senior leadership team, you will be responsible for producing high quality consolidated financial information concerning the whole of the Babcock Rail legal entity and will help to drive business performance. You will oversee the company's IS performance and liaise with Group Finance as necessary to ensure appropriate support for the Rail business needs.

Key duties will include:
  • Ensure high quality business information is prepared for the Managing Director of Babcock Rail and into Group Finance
  • Develop the financial systems such that there is simple and effective controls across the business and that the systems deliver that which the operational and support teams need to operate their business.
  • Co-ordinate finance input to Change implementation programmes and as necessary be an active participant or project manager or project sponsor of projects arising.
  • Provide all Babcock Rail's financial requirements (monthly, budgets/forecasts, annual) in a professional and timeous manner and input into risk and opportunity management.
  • Ensure that the Finance Team have the appropriate qualified and experienced staff with the right capabilities and to lead their training and development.
  • Sponsor business and technology projects designed to make an improvement to business performance through core systems enhancements and improvement activity (such as IFS Upgrade project).
  • Ensure the Company's cash flow is managed in the best interest of the business and in accordance with the agreed business plan.
  • Ensure that Company policies are implemented consistently and that core values of the Company concerning people are upheld especially those concerned with fairness, equal opportunity and work-life balance.
  • Ensure that adherence to financial accounting and commercial governance is maintained by all parts of the business.
  • Supporting decision making in relation to bid winning (review of pricing proposal, costing processes, adherence to stage gate compliance) and strategic planning
  • Manage relationship and lead the process with Internal / External Auditors.

What do I need to do the role?
You'll need to be an proven finance leader, who is resilient, and thrives off driving change and improvement through an organisation.
Whilst not essential, a background in the Rail, Civil Engineering or Construction sectors is highly desirable, and will be given preference
You will be a qualified Accountant, ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent, with considerable post-qualifying experience.
Lastly, you will be equally comfortable delivering technical accounting work, as well as business partnering to non-finance stakeholders on commercial issues.
