Here at Yarls Wood i t takes a whole team of people to keep the facility safe, secure and in proper working order. We are recruiting for a driven and dedicated FM Services Officer to join our team at Yarls Wood Immigration Removal Centre. As our new Services Officer, you will report into the Facilities Manager and work alongside a Works Service team of multi-skilled Engineers.

As part of your role you will ensure that various pre-planned maintenance schedules are kept up to date and maintained as well as related routine maintenance and repairs, but within the capabilities of your ability, experience, and training. As FM Services Officer you will need to operate machine tools safely and according to your training of installed equipment within the works service workshops. Other key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the members of the maintenance team with their activities on other plant and apparatus.
  • Escorting contractors around the site as and when required as per written instructions.
  • Carrying out all duties assigned in a safe manner, observing all statutory regulations and local regulations.


Overall, this is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a supportive team and taking pride in what they do as we are a tight-knit unit within the Removal Centre.

What you will need to do the role:

We are looking for someone who has previously worked in a similar role and will be able to hit the ground running upon starting therefore, we would also consider relevant certifications or licences that will allow you to aid in other areas such as Carpentry, Joinery, Plumbing and Electrical. As you will be assisting in multi-trade support within the team, it is important that you have a flexible and common-sense approach to work, as the role will include being a member of the facilities 'Out of Hours' call out roster, as and when required.

A key part of this role is to be pro-active and this will be achieved by commitment to customer satisfaction and striving for continuous improvement in your working approach, including the ability to prioritise workload, using your own initiative and working in a logical and methodical manner to tight timescales. You will also need to be confident in your ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both in writing and orally.
