Software Engineering Team Manager, UKHO, up to £572/day

UK Hydrographic Office are seeking a Software Engineering Team Manager to join their team in Taunton. The candidate will work remotely with occasional visits in the office until COVID19 restrictions are lifted. After which time, presence in the office will be required 1-2 times/month.

Initial contracts will run for 6 months and offer a rate up to £572/day.

IR35 STATUS: Inside IR35. This engagement has been assessed by the public body as Inside IR35 legislation. Candidates would be required to operate through an umbrella company on this engagement.

This role requires Active SC (Security Check) clearance. Applicants require active SC clearance or the willingness to go through clearance before starting on site. Candidates with current clearance will be preferred.

Main Responsibilities

• Hiring, developing and retaining high quality software engineers for our software delivery teams
• Grow the team of software and test engineers to meet the future needs of the business
• Line management of a number of software and test engineers (Approx. 12), with responsibility for attendance/performance management and ongoing development of engineer’s skills. This will include coaching, mentoring, and fostering potential.
• Leadership of the software and test engineering communities of practice. Facilitating community events and ongoing development of the communities.
• Development of new ways of working, processes and tools
• Attending a range of meetings representing software engineering

Minimum Requirements

• Experience and responsibility of driving and implementing new ways of working, new tools, processes within a development environment.
• Significant experience of managing people, including coaching, mentoring, performance management and fostering potential.
• Experience of recruiting, ideally technical staff (software engineers)
• Strong communication skills
• Experience of working in a software/testing development environment

Candidate Eligibility

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK, this role will not offer Visa sponsorship. Tier 2 – General visas are cannot be accepted. This role requires that candidates be willing to undergo BPSS (DS) Baseline Personnel Security Standard (with a Disclosure Scotland).
