About the role

This is an opportunity for a number of health physics professional staff to join our collaborative Babcock team of designers, health physics, radioactive waste management, operations and project staff working on the important task of decommissioning the UK's defueled nuclear power submarines at the Rosyth site. This role offers a wide range of experience for Health Physicists and RPAs, which includes:

  • the development and implementation of robust processes to meet EASR18, IRR17, ONR license and SEPA permits in an expanding scope of radiological work across the site
  • liaison with SEPA, ONR and HSE on compliance activities across the Babcock site
  • liaison with stakeholders including MOD to deliver the decommissioning project effectively on time and cost
  • provision of health physics advice related to operational activities
  • development of characterisation and sampling plans to support radioactive waste disposal
  • development of radioactive clearance methodologies and processes to demonstrate compliance with IRR17 and EASR18
  • Implementation of the Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations across the site

These roles are an opportunity for an existing experienced Health Physicist/RPA to undertake new and challenging work, or for a more junior Health Physicist to work on a range of large scope projects to increase their experience towards RPA certification. Our team can accommodate a range of experienced personnel and there are opportunities to work on multiple projects individually and as part of a team.

Support will be provided towards certification or to maintain certification.

You will have relevant recent experience in the nuclear regulatory and environmental regulation field. You will have experience of implementing, advising, or regulating Radiological Protection and Waste Management arrangements.

You will have professional radiation protection experience. Knowledge and experience of the regulations, codes, standards, licenses and permits relating to Radiation Protection and radioactive waste. Health Physics background preferred but scientific background with Health Physics experience will be considered.
