<p>We are looking for a Senior Laser Engineer to join us at Leonardo. Leonardo is an international leader in the development of cutting edge sensor products deployed across a wide range of airborne platforms for our Aerospace and Defence customers.<br /> <br /> As a Senior Laser Engineer will join our world class optics and laser development team which provides leading-edge solutions into the global defence sector. The extensive product range includes targeting lasers, high energy laser delivery systems, electro-optic countermeasures solutions and electro-optic targeting and surveillance systems. You will assume responsibility for the delivery of all laser design aspects of a product whilst working within a multidisciplinary project team where they will collaborate closely with other domain experts. You will champion rigorous engineering approaches and drive the delivery of robust and cost-effective design solutions. You will often be required to liaise with the customer community and have regular interactions with the external supply chain.<br /> <br /> You will have a great opportunity to contribute to the design and development of laser products, carry out analysis and performance simulations, supports the integration and test of laser products and work closely with manufacturing colleagues and suppliers to ensure the delivery of high quality products.<br /> <br /> You will provide expertise in modelling or designing laser architectures, components and subsystems using commercial and in-house tools. You will create and review manufacturing data packs and test specifications. Your role will play a key part in product qualification by problem solving to support manufacture and often engage with external stakeholders including customers and suppliers. Working on your own initiative will be second nature to you and you will also enjoy working within a project team environment and demonstrate ownership of work packages.<br /> You will possess a master's level qualification in physics or optical sciences. A PhD in a relevant field is highly desirable.<br /> <br /> You will bring previous experience working in a laser product development and/or laser applied research environment. It is also necessary to have had ownership of a laser design which has been manufactured (in one off or volume production).<br /> <br /> You will have experience in the design, characterisation and manufacture of lasers using appropriate commercial tools. An advanced understanding of laser physics and a detailed understanding and familiarity with solid state or fibre lasers is required. An appreciation of the mechanical and electrical design aspects of laser systems would be beneficial.</p>
