We are looking for a Lead Hardware Specialist to join us at Leonardo in Edinburgh. You will provide you with the opportunity to work on cutting edge technology. Leonardo is a world-class defence technology company. We develop cutting edge Radars for the Eurofighter Typhoon and SAAB Gripen fighter jets, as well as Maritime and Airborne surveillance systems. As a Lead Hardware Specialist you will be working on complex PCB designs including analogue electronics, digital design (including PCBs for FPGA) and high speed digital including Ethernet. Your work will be across all the major RF sub-systems, as part of a small multi-disciplinary team focused on future-looking projects. You will provide key technical support across all aspects of the product lifecycle, from concept to production including peer reviewing the work of others.

Project work at Leonardo is based on both internally funded products and directly funded work with deliverable's to key customers within short timescales. If successful, you will be joining a dedicated multi-disciplined Integrated Project Team with a full and stretching workload - with huge potential for personal growth and professional development.

As a Lead Hardware Specialist you will be responsible for the design of circuits and sub-systems as part of a small development team. This may include:

Hardware requirements capture and management
Concept development for complex circuits and systems
Circuit design and analysis
Production of material for design reviews
Technical support to sub-contracts
Development test planning and design verification
Mentoring and supervision of more junior team members
Peer review of other designs
Acting as a recognised expert in one or more specialisms

You will have experience in the following areas:

Proficiency with design of complex mixed signal PCBs
Broad experience of electronics design across a range of domains e.g.: power supplies & filters, precision analogue electronics, mixed-signal design, FPGAs, high speed digital interfaces, design for EMC
Experience across the engineering lifecycle - design, documentation and in the lab
Effective team worker with good communication skills
An aptitude for problem solving and driving difficult issues to conclusion.
Experience using one or more of: Matlab, Spice, Mentor DxDesigner, Hyperlynx, Keysight SIPro/PIPro.

It would be desirable to have:

Experience of budgeting, project planning and reporting

Skills in more than one of the following areas:

High speed backplanes
Low noise power supplies
Mixed signal designs using high speed DAC, DDS, ADC or similar
Non-linear circuit simulation
Component selection
Design for manufacture
Design for test
Sub-system or system level integration, test and debugging
Domain knowledge of radar or similar RF systems
