Job Description Summary We are looking for a Senior Software Engineering Lead to bring expertise and technical direction to our technology development teams. Primarily, the successful candidate in this role will work on some of our most cutting-edge display technology helping to develop the next generation of cockpit displays offered by GE Aviation. You will technically direct the team, designing and developing an A661 based graphical system for the Power Distribution and Controls business of GE Aviation Systems based in Cheltenham.

Your focus will be to work closely with your team day to day and lead the decisions of how work is completed, technically guiding the team through varying options and bringing your expertise to the team; to grow our technical capability. With this in mind, we are looking for a candidate with a strong engineering background in a formal/regulated development environment such as Aviation, Automotive or Healthcare, with demonstratable understanding of the technical limitations/challenges of working in a safety critical environment. Ideally your background would include HMI and experience of the software certification processes, however if you have strong knowledge in A661, a graphics background or software tool experience we would like to hear from you.

Job Description In this role you will collaborate with Project Managers, Technical Leads and Chief Engineers to deliver on customer needs. In addition, you will identify initiatives to improve performance of the products under development and help lean-out engineering processes. Guided by professional practices and policies you will have the opportunity to bring your knowledge to life through this product range. The successful candidate will be a self-starter capable of operating with a degree of independence, good interpersonal, communication and reporting skills, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership, technical direction and guidance for the project team
  • Support and develop the engineering team through coaching and sharing technical expertise
  • Helping to develop the next generation of GE Aviation display systems
  • Partner with external stakeholders, Technical Leads and Chief Engineers to build and deliver on product roadmaps
  • Collaboration with ARINC to further define the latest standards in A661 ​
  • Day -to-day management of the delegation of tasks and team focus to ensure delivery to customers is achieved


Qualifications/Requirements
  • Relevant degree from an accredited university or college or an equivalent amount of related experience
  • Proven experience in a project technical leadership role within a formal/regulated engineering environment
  • Have a good grounding and understanding of OpenGL and how to program for performance
  • Detailed knowledge of GPUs and graphics SW
  • Detailed knowledge of A661 in terms of protocol, Server, Architecture and widget creation (or good experience equivalent communications protocol)
  • Knowledge and understanding of good graphical API design
  • Knowledge of Visual Studio, VX Works, Linux compilers
  • UML, OO Background
  • Good understanding of Auto code generation in C++ and C
  • Good understanding of C# and how to create tools
  • Basic understanding of tool qualification in a regulated environment
  • Be confident in communication with customers and external committees and governing bodies
  • XML and XDS and conversion between these and other formats
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills,
  • Be a good team worker, building/supporting others
  • Receptive to new concepts and ideas
  • Speaks with candour and transparency

Desired Characteristics
  • Knowledge of certification processes within a regulated environment
  • HMI knowledge and experience
  • Knowledge of aircraft systems desired, understanding of a distributed architecture across a federated system
  • Knowledge or understanding of Do178 B and/or C for aviation equipment
