Embedded Software Engineer

The constant requirement for new, better and more complex products means that our client requires an additional Embedded Software Engineer based in Colchester or Theale.

Manufacturer of single board computer products, for the VPX, VME, Compact PCI, AMC and other architectures which are integrated into many different markets around the world. Our clients products are designed and developed in-house, and use leading-edge microprocessors and peripheral components.

Software Engineers are involved in many different activities, and in particular the following:

*Work on BSPs for cutting edge Intel processor-based boards.
*Design and development of middleware, system, and device driver software for many standard operating systems.
*Working with our hardware designers during the design phase to specify the product, and again during the proving phase to validate the product.
*Work on challenging customer issues that get escalated to engineering team.
*Develop test software and procedures.
*Projects are usually relatively small and of short duration, and in most cases a single engineer is responsible for the complete package. The hardware and software platforms vary, but most of the devices used are complex and a good appreciation of the hardware is a pre-requisite for this role.

You will have the following experience.

*Very proficient in Embedded C.
*In-depth knowledge and hands on experience writing real time device drivers for Linux or similar operating system.
*In-depth knowledge of either ARM, PowerPC, x86 or other large CPU architecture.
*Good appreciation of hardware.
*Excellent problem solving and debugging skills.:
*VMware configuration and deployment.
*High-speed Ethernet networking protocols and infrastructure.
*Programming for parallel processor architectures.
*Web-based user interfaces.
