Job Description Summary The Electronics Design Engineering Manager demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role you will integrate and develop engineering practices that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional areas of expertise, manage and develop teams, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy. The team that you will be managing consists primarily of FPGA design engineers and your involvement will be to direct this team across multiple projects, determining the appropriate strategy for the device design and implementation.

Job Description Essential Responsibilities
This role is known internally to GE as the Custom Logic Engineering Leader and is the functional manager to the Custom Logic (FPGA/ASIC/SoC) engineering teams engaged in the design, verification, physical test and qualification of hardware and custom logic solutions within Power Distribution and Controls products. You will:
 
  • Provide functional leadership and technical direction to your team - ensure adherence to prescribed regulatory, company and functional processes and procedures
  • Establish priorities for staff in your team that align with company and divisional objectives
  • Coordinate efforts within your team to assure technical quality excellence, timely and on-budget completion of work, effective use of resources and responsiveness to customer / program needs
  • Manage resource supply and demand for your team, including recruitment of permanent and temporary staff, placement of work at GE global sites and outsource of work packages to suppliers
  • Facilitate communication of technical and business information between organisations and within your team
  • Communicate with, and provide support to senior leaders on technical, organizational, resource and staff issues
  • Define roles and responsibilities for your team, and other assigned personnel
  • Conduct appraisals, performance management, and participate in salary planning
  • Promote professional growth through timely performance feedback and ongoing coaching
  • Ensure company compliance training requirements are implemented within your team

Qualifications / Requirements
 
  • Relevant degree or similar qualification
  • Demonstrable experience in a project leadership or new product introduction role across the full life cycle ideally within a safety critical environment
  • Demonstrable functional and line management experience
  • Working knowledge of FPGA design and verification for embedded systems applications
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and team-building skills

Desired Characteristics
 
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements for aerospace complex hardware design
  • An understanding of DO-254 as applicable to Custom Logic design and verification
  • Working knowledge of regulatory and safety requirements for safety critical products (ideally gained in an avionics or similar environment)
