About the job Summary

Investigating serious criminality; collecting and developing intelligence and evidence to build and contribute to case file preparations to prosecute offenders.

You will be working closely with other NCA departments and partner agencies to identify threats from criminality and work in a challenging environment to pursue offenders.

For candidates interested in Cyber roles these roles will be based in Birmingham, London and Warrington.

For roles in the following locations, candidates may be required to deal with Child Sexual Abuse Investigations:

Chorley, Sheffield, London (Spring Gardens), Warrington.

Job description

Investigators

Using innovative approaches and ground breaking techniques you will be making decisions which help to disrupt and bring to justice criminals who present the highest threat to the UK.

You may be expected to work directly or indirectly in tackling child sexual abuse (CSA). This may involve exposure to child sexual abuse images and material. You should consider the sensitive nature of the work before deciding to apply.

For candidates interested in Cyber roles these role will be based in Birmingham, London and Warrington.
 

Responsibilities

NCA investigative teams respond to a broad range of threats including Organised Immigration Crime, Cyber Dependant Crime, Fraud, Human Trafficking, Child Sexual Abuse, Firearms and Drugs, International Corruption Unit as well as having internal Professional Standards teams. Investigations are undertaken in a varied and dynamic environment with critical roles in identifying intelligence and evidential opportunities in support of Investigation leads.

Should you have previous experience or a willingness to undertake training in order to tackle Cyber Dependant Crime or work in the Internal Professional Standards team – please indicate this on your application (see guidance under ‘Application Process’ pages).

These are challenging roles requiring a flexible approach to working long and varied hours, often at short notice, operating from locations within England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Licences

Full DVLA Driving Licence (Includes Full EU Licences) or the ability to obtain a Full Driving Licence within one year in post.

Qualifications

The following qualifications/skills are essential to the role and proof will be required at interview:

Current/Active PIP1 or an equivalent recognised qualification/accreditation in investigative crime issued by a Government body.

Please see guidance on page 13 within the candidate information pack for further information on PIP accreditation and your eligibility to apply.

Individuals who do not currently hold PIP accreditation are still eligible to apply as long as they hold an equivalent recognised accreditation in investigative crime issued by a Government body. Investigators who join the agency without PIP2 accreditation may be required to achieve this, including passing any exams (National Investigators Exam (NIE) and/or the NCA Specific Powers Exam).

Please ensure the dates of any accreditations you are relying on, are entered on to the CV.

Should you progress to the assessment stage of the process, you will be required to provide a copy of the original certificate.

Failure to provide evidence at interview may result in your application not progressing to the next stage.

Technical skills

We'll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

  • Experience of conducting arrests; competent and experienced at interviewing witnesses and suspects (custody time limits/procedures, extensions and authorisations), use of bad character evidence and bail.
  • Experience and knowledge around seizure of exhibits, continuity of evidence, and sieze/sift legislation, including experience in disclosure, and scheduling of material, and knowledge of CPIA legislation.
  • Experienced and competent in completing case files and liaising with prosecuting agencies or authorities.
  • Experience and knowledge in the use of investigations techniques to meet operational outcomes.
  • Understanding of the cyber landscape, emerging techniques and the threat to the UK.

Security

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is Security Check

People working with government assets must complete basic personnel security standard checks.
