Role Summary

The Senior Infrastructure Operations Engineer - Platforms Team will be working across a broad range of technologies and liaising with multiple areas of the business to monitor, support, deploy and maintain the infrastructure services across the global Meggitt estate. You will provide operations support and expertise, including technical ownership and management of incidents, requests, problem records, daily monitoring, backup checks and complete both hardware and software patching cycles in order to maintain good operational hygiene.

Core Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for maintaining and proactively managing BAU incidents and requests
  • Take ownership of the monthly patching process and report on status
  • Proactively monitor the infrastructure and applications services
  • Create and maintain documentation/process/procedures/knowledge base articles
  • Providing support and technical assistance for infrastructure systems and networks
  • Conducting life-cycle management for assets including hardware, software, intellectual property, licences and warranties. Managing usage, disposal, compliance, inventory, sustainability, cost optimisation and protection of the asset portfolio.
  • Managing changes to service, configuration items, organisational change, supplier change and associated documentation.
  • Analysing and identifying, prioritising and implementing improvements and efficiencies.
  • Understanding and identifying problems, analysing and helping to identify the appropriate solution.
  • Work as part of a small team providing technical support on infrastructure services


Key skills and competencies required:

  • Experience in a specialist support/delivery role in a medium to large organisation, with significant technical delivery/support responsibility.
  • Significant experience and technical knowledge in a number of the following technology areas:
    • VMware Cloud Foundation/Storage/Server platforms
    • Active directory and a multi domain environment
    • Global Monitoring and Alerting
    • Enterprise Cloud
    • Backup, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery
    • Day to day and Datacentre operations in the Platforms environment
    • Global server/software obsolesce patching and security
  • Experienced in working with external suppliers and service providers to resolve issues and incidents
  • Good understanding of Service Management Framework principles and processes and the ability to apply your technical knowledge
