Within our UK regional business, we have a division dedicated to providing consultancy services to the Aerospace, Defence, Security and Technology (ADS&T) markets, serving key accounts across Central and Local Government, Public Services, Regulated Industries, Blue Light services as well as the Private Sector.
Within ADS&T, Atkins has built a team of consultants that deliver management consultancy and client-side support in the business and digital transformation space. Their focus is primarily digital & technology enabled transformation, strategy, architecture development and business change integration.

This role is within Digital Advisory which has an excellent record in consultancy and delivery to a wide range of clients, which includes some of the largest public and private sector organizations in the UK, particularly in defence, security and government markets.

The increased use of data within organizations means they now must be able to respond to the disruption of the digital era and the increasing pace, volatility, variety and scale of change that is now an everyday way of life in today’s business environment.

The purpose of this role is to provide architectural consultancy and expertise to our clients on their technology roadmaps Data Assurance and Data Security and Data Exploitation.  In order to increase the value of data and allow them to increase agility, business responsiveness and delivering business value faster.

Responsible for the definition of data architecture, data models, options and solutions to meet strategic business objectives. Ensuring these designs and solutions are efficient, sustainable and fit-for-purpose for current and future business needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Define the best practices for Data Management, assurance and security including data standards, reporting and analytics.
  • Work with clients to integrate these best practices into their data governance and wider enterprise governance structures.
  • Work with clients to formulate their vision and work with them to develop, communicate and deliver a roadmap to realise it.
  • Translate visions, goals, objectives and high-level requirements into clearly defined and actionable packages of work.
  • Develop technology specifications that ensure new technology solutions are designed for optimal access and usefulness, for leveraging company data.
  • Apply architectural and business concepts to design a solution that meets operational requirements, such as scalability, maintainability, security, reliability, extensibility, flexibility, availability and manageability.
  • Enable change by understanding existing business norms, identifying and capturing needs and recommending technical solutions that deliver value to clients and their key stakeholders
  • Use Systems Thinking and Systems Engineering methods for enterprise level problem solving and design.
  • Applying data architecture disciplines to new fields such as Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence
  • Produce a holistic view of the architecture which can be viewed and understood from a variety of viewpoints and levels.

Requirements:

  • A degree in a science, computing or engineering subject, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven work experience as a Data Architect, Data Scientist, Data Analyst or similar role.
  • Experience with the use of Enterprise Architecture frameworks such as ISO42010, TOGAF, Zachman and the ITIL and IT4IT service architecture frameworks.
  • Experience of information systems design and delivery, applying engineering rigour through Enterprise Architecture development methods and tools as appropriate.
  • In-depth understanding of database structure principles.
  • Experience gathering and analysing system requirements.
  • Expertise in SQL.
  • Knowledge an inexperience in at least one of the following: UML, ERD, ETL,OLAP.
  • Knowledge of Python or similar.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI and R).

  • Strong consulting skills, knowledge and experience of a variety of techniques and methods to capture, elaborate and understand client challenges (structured thinking, effective report writing and presentations, and strong stakeholder engagement).
  • Good negotiation, communication and relationship building skills; able to influence business decisions and formulate positive relationships with customers, strategic partners and colleges.
  • A high-level of self-initiation, organisation and enthusiasm.
  • Motivated to drive the design and delivery of solutions that realise the outcomes for the client’s needs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to influence effectively across multiple media.
  • Personable team player, able to work under guidance and own initiative, adding expertise and value to project deliverables.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A strong interest and appreciation of technology trends and government IT strategy such as, Cloud, Internet of Things, Cyber Security, Big Data and digital service design and delivery.
