Job Description
The role of Senior Test Equipment Engineer is key to delivering an effective support service to the various users of Test Equipment, not only at our customer’s Edinburgh site, but at various customer facilities throughout the United Kingdom and globally. 


You will form part of a close-knit team of engineers. The aim is to deliver a proactive service to our customers, maximising test equipment availability. Services include calibration, repair, maintenance and safety testing, all executed in a scheduled and timely manner.


A close working relationship will be required with Test Equipment Design Authorities, Manufacturing Hall Supervisors and Equipment Operators to provide effective maintenance and successful closure of technical issues.


The ideal candidate would have leadership skills enabling you to lead small teams and projects when required, allocating tasks while monitoring and reporting on their progress to completion.


A range of skills will be required in this role. Experience of mixed technologies test equipment is required while knowledge of test equipment design processes and engineering tools is desirable. The ability to identify, categorise and effectively plan corrective actions is essential. Identification and elimination of pattern faults to increase equipment uptime while driving down repair costs. Review and input into working procedures and manuals for maintenance and repair, providing quality and consistency. 

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Work well as part of a team.
  • Delivering the core task of calibration, fault diagnosis and repair, maintenance and safety testing to agreed timescales and budget.
  • Adherence to standard customer procedures.
  • Liaison with customers to provide on-site and remote engineering solutions.
  • Experience of preparing material for peer reviews and design reviews
  • Utilising asset management software to plan, schedule and manage weekly/daily workloads.
  • Develop a working partnership with internal and external customers, Manufacturing Supervisors and Operators.
  • Develop a good working relationship with Test Equipment Design Authorities and Design Team Engineers resulting in efficient and effective handover of new Test Equipment.
  • Engage and work in partnership with key service providers to promote best working practices.
  • Provide a focused approach to asset management.
  • Identify areas of improvement in all aspects of the role.


Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

  • You will be educated to either HNC/HND or Degree level in an Engineering discipline.
  • Ideally have working experience in a Manufacturing Hall or Lab Environment, engaged in maintenance of general purpose and special-to-type test equipment.
  • You must be a team player, customer focused and able to develop strong, trusting relationships.
  • Technical and problem solving skills are required. 
  • Experience of debugging and fault finding, complex electronic systems is required. 
  • An understanding and experience of the full product design lifecycle would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience and knowledge in some of the following would be advantageous; Radar Systems, Lasers, Electro-Optics, Complex Electronic Systems, Special to Type Test Equipment.

  • Use of Display Screen Equipment (PC and Instrument based).
  • Occasional UK travel required.
