Job Description Summary The role is about leading the GE's Power System Team Centre of Excellence in Edinburgh, in charge of Wide Area Monitoring Systems (WAMS), Protection and Control (WAMPAC) systems. In this role, you will be responsible for leading, executing and operationalization of world class data driven methods, advanced algorithms and capabilities to support needs of the businesses in the WAMS and WAMPAC domains applied to electrical grids.

Our team works end-to-end from substation to control room, in the fields of power system dynamics, stability, control and performance; covering instrumentation, monitoring & analytics, control systems and modelling. We work closely with customers to develop innovative solutions to emerging problems, shape and deliver software, design & deploy control schemes, and provide consulting services around power system performance, model validation, tuning of power system stabilizers, and more.
We are looking for a Leader who is passionate about revolutionising the power system, understand the complexities around low-carbon energy and can apply innovative solutions to bring about change and effectively manage the team.

Job Description Roles and Responsibilities
You will be responsible for pursuing the execution of your projects and identifying new business opportunities and with a high level of autonomy.
In this role, you will:
  • Lead a cross-disciplinary teams of power systems engineers on solving business problems using analytics, advanced applications and algorithm typically involving large data sets. These cross-disciplinary teams typically include experienced power system engineers incl PhDs as well as embedded software developers.
  • Drive customer solutions by using phasor and other operational data, analytics and advanced applications and algorithm to drive visibility, insights and actions to facilitate decision making of electrical grid system operators and/or grid asset owners and/or power generation operators and owners.
  • Enable customer-oriented application and analytics offerings you will develop thought leadership, innovation spirit and customer experience advocacy within the team to help our customers achieve their key strategic goals such as and enabling the low carbon grid of the future. You will serve as coach / mentor for engineers on the team
  • Provide business / functional perspective to WAMS & WAMPAC projects
  • Ensure customer adoption & drive operationalization, and maximize usage and use of analytics and advanced applications with customers
  • Work very closely with project and program managers for project reviews. Drive reviews related to technical feasibility, prioritization, initiation, execution, user acceptance, operationalization for all technical project work related to the WAMS / WAMPAC program(s) meeting project and program goals
  • Partner and maintain effective working relationship with other technical and business resources (Engineering, Product Management, Services, potentially research centers etc.) to effectively develop innovative solutions and products to emerging problems, shape and deliver software, design & deploy control schemes, and provide consulting services around power system performance, model validation, tuning of power system stabilizers, and more
  • Effectively communicate (i.e. status, issues, and escalations) to leadership and other various levels of the organization. Develop horizontal collaboration with the broader GE organization
  • Keep the team highly motivated and engaged
  • Up to 25% travel for customer interaction and project meetings
Education Qualification
MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent knowledge and experience, with preferred focus on Power System Dynamics, Transients, Stability and Control.

  • Working knowledge and hands on experience in power system analysis using industry standard tools including PSCAD, PSS/E, DigSilent Powerfactory or Powertech DSA Tools, would be beneficial
  • Hands on experience working with Matlab/Simulink programming would be beneficial Familiarity in Utility and other industrial experience would be beneficial - in particular, experience in operations, planning and/or system analysis
