Job Details

A senior systems engineer role is available to work within the Surveillance & Protection Technology (S&PT) business group, to develop RF detection and self-protection solutions, or 'Electronic Countermeasures' (ECM) for a variety of rotary and fixed-wing airborne platforms operating in increasingly complex and hostile environments.

You will part of a team providing world-leading, responsive, and user-centric solutions including on-board and off-board RF countermeasures that work under the command of Defensive Aids System (DAS) controllers, which enable the seamless integration of otherwise independent sensing and countermeasure DAS systems. These systems provide unparalleled platform protection.

As a senior systems engineer you will have the ability to apply your knowledge and experiences of the engineering lifecycle, with opportunities to support the early definition and design activities through to integration, and qualification, before demonstrating and delivering completed solutions to our customers. You will work within a multidisciplined project team, alongside domain and product subject-matter experts in a highly collaborative and supportive environment.

WHAT YOU'LL GET

  • Prestige: You can be part of a team that is trusted worldwide to develop airborne solutions that provide situational awareness and self-protection.
  • Influence: You will be able to apply your knowledge and experience to influence the development of current and next generation RF sensor systems.
  • Teamwork: You will work alongside like-minded professional engineers in the creation and implementation of cutting-edge sensor and effector solutions.
  • Continuous Learning: We support the professional growth of our people and reward those who seek and nurture Leonardo's success.
  • Networking: You will be joining an expansive team of around 7,000 people at six major sites across the UK, part of Leonardo's 46,000 global team.
  • Legacy: We are proud of our 100-year heritage in Electronic Warfare (EW). Today we're providing the latest advances in radio frequency technology and you can be part of the next 100-year legacy.

Key Responsibility Areas

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Understand and interpret user requirements, to define system and sub-system requirements, including functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Define tests to demonstrate design and implementation compliance, ensuring end-to-end traceability to achieve certification.
  • Support the definition of system concepts and architectures.
  • Perform system integration, verification, and validation activities to test and analyse performance and effectiveness within synthetic and live environments.
  • Perform technical peer reviews and provide mentoring in areas of expertise.
  • Develop engineering specifications, reports and presentations for delivery to customers and industry partners.
  • Travel within the UK to meet with our customers and industry partners.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

You really must have:

  • Experience of the systems engineering lifecycle stages, processes, and gate reviews, working in a multi-disciplined team.
  • Proficiency in requirements definition, traceability, and evidence-based compliance using DOORS.
  • Ability to define test and acceptance criteria and assess system design compliance against user and system requirements.
  • An understanding of the key principles associated with RF signal propagation for passive sensors or active emitters.
  • Self-motivated with an aptitude for problem-solving and decision-making within projects involving design complexity and uncertainty.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation ability.
  • Undergraduate Engineering degree or related scientific discipline.

It would be nice if you had:

  • Knowledge of RF countermeasure systems, including techniques to evade and defeat detection and tracking systems at various levels of engagement.
  • Proficiency in mathematical modelling using MATLAB and Simulink
  • Experience of contributing to work package management; cost and schedule planning and tracking, and reporting of key metrics.
  • Experience of mentoring.
