Scheduling and Project Controls Manager
SF30950
Location: Devonport, Plymouth
Starting Salary: £43,445

About the Role
We're looking for a Scheduling and Project Controls Manager to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

The Submarine Support Programme Management Office (PMO) provides a professional service to our customers, delivering high quality support functions to enable the effective delivery of Submarine Support Projects. This is an exciting time for the PMO - there are many work streams commencing during 2021 for both the Vanguard and Astute Class Submarines' Deep Maintenance Periods (DMPs), which extend well into the 2030's.

The setting up of a scheduling network for accurate Project Controls reporting is key to the success and delivery of the DMP. As a Scheduling and Project Controls Manager you'll manage the development and maintenance of the Vanguard Class project schedules and associated project controls metrics.

You'll be leading and managing a team of Schedulers and Report Writers to establish a scheduling network for the next Vanguard Class DMP. You'll also develop and manage suitably qualified and experienced Senior Project Engineers (Schedulers) to ensure that progress and Earned Value is captured in a timely and accurate fashion. This is an exciting and challenging prospect and one that will have to be meticulously planned to meet the demand of this Business critical work stream.

What do I need to do the role?
You'll be educated to ONC /HNC level or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline and have significant, demonstrable Scheduling and Planning expertise with the ability to negotiate and extract relevant information with delivering managers.

We would also like you to have the following:
  • Highly proficient with Scheduling Software/Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project
  • Knowledge of Submarine Systems and their associated operation and refitting practices, or
  • Knowledge of Marine/Nuclear Industry practices
  • Well-developed and effective leadership skills

Lastly, this position requires someone with strong organisational and effective communication skills together with the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with Senior Managers and stakeholders.

What else do I need to know?
  • The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
  • We are happy to talk about flexible working. Please ask about alternative patterns of work at interview.
