The NCA is looking for an exceptional leader to fill the role of Deputy Director Head of the National Cyber Crime Unit. The Wannacry cyber attack in 2017 represented a dramatic shift in the nature of the cyber crime threat to the UK. In this high profile role, the NCA's Deputy Director for Cyber Crime will provide national and international leadership in the fight against cyber-dependent threats, such as ransomware, data thefts and major cyber incidents.

The successful candidate will be part of the Threat Leadership Command and will lead both the national response to cyber crime and a wider team of LE partners.

Responsibilities in this critical role include:

  • Setting the law enforcement operational strategy for tackling cyber-dependent crime;
  • Leading and coordinating the UK's tactical PURSUE response to cyber crime;
  • Under PREPARE, planning and testing the Law Enforcement response to national cyber incidents;
  • Overseeing the development of the UK's intelligence picture of cybercrime threats with Intelligence Partners and industry;
  • Leading a national strategy for capability development in combating cybercrime;
  • Proactively working as part of the NCA's senior leadership team to promote a strong 'One NCA' culture and contribute towards delivery of a powerful response to the full range of Serious and Organised Crime threats.

The successful post holder will be required to demonstrate the following:

  • Outstanding inclusive leadership skills in a complex operational environment, with a demonstrable commitment to developing and nurturing a highly performing, diverse and talented workforce.
  • The ability to lead strategic programmes and a strong track record implementing significant performance and cultural transformation. You will have the resilience to take tough decisions as well as a natural ability to engage people in leading change.
  • Commitment to working in partnership, with the gravitas and influencing skills to deliver in a complex and interconnected context. An ability to lead across organisational boundaries and unite disparate teams.
  • The ability to navigate ambiguity with purpose and dedication to the organisation’s core mission, strong communication skills and an ability to translate large amounts of complex information with clarity, both internally and externally with sensitivity.

The successful candidate will have a law enforcement, CT, intelligence or Security Services background and have current or recent experience of successful operational delivery in criminal investigations.

The successful candidate is required to obtain DV Enhanced Clearance for this role.
