We currently have a number of exciting opportunities to join Babcock Clyde Apprenticeship programme for our 2021 intake.
Working through a 4-year, fully accredited modern apprenticeship programme, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills, and to specialise in one of a number of engineering-based trades, which will be assigned prior to you taking up the post (Electrical/Mechanical/Electronics/Instrumentation & Control).
If you are successful in your application, your specific areas of responsibility on the programme will include building your understanding and knowledge of engineering principles, attending college and submitting work within set deadlines and completing academic and vocational training activities. In all activities undertaken, participants will be required to meet the standards set out within the Modern Apprenticeship and by Babcock.
The starting salary for this role will be £18,700 per annum, with annual incremental increases upon successful completion of national standards.
Requirements
We are looking for candidates who are able to demonstrate the potential to grow and develop their skills, and who can match this with the drive and dedication needed to pursue a successful career in engineering.
Successful applicants will demonstrate a strong aptitude for, and interest in, technical-based subject matter. Specific areas of competency we require are as follows:
  • Qualified to National Level 5 (or equivalent qualification) in English, Maths and at least one Science or Technical subject
  • Qualified to National Level 4 or 5 (or equivalent qualification) in at least two other subjects
  • Robust work ethic and willingness to take responsibility for personal, academic and vocational development
  • Safety conscious, with high levels of reliability, punctuality and dependability
  • Able to work effectively as a part of a team and to build strong relationships with co-workers
Please note that applicants must meet the Modern Apprenticeship requirements in line with Skills Development Scotland. Assessment Centres for the 2021 Apprenticeship programme will be held during April and May 2021. You should ensure that you are available to attend at this time before making your application.

Security
Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and will be required to complete a medical assessment.
The role will be in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. This may require you to meet enhanced security and regular screening checks.

Description of Location
This role is based at HMNB Clyde, located at Faslane, north of Helensburgh in the West of Scotland. We are well placed for commuter links to Glasgow and the wider region, with easy access for car and public transport. For the entirety of year one of the Apprenticeship programme and thereafter on a day release basis, successful candidates will be based at a college in the Clyde region.
