Role Detail:

BAE Systems are excited to offer an opportunity to the right individual as a Data Services Engineer within the Air Sector business unit. You will be a key member of a high performing team ensuring our Business Intelligence & Analytics Competency Centre (BIACC) services are available and performant with a keen focus on customer satisfaction. 


Undertaking project development as part of a wider team enhancing the safe release of high-quality delivery as part of a wide range of product development using well-respected technologies to support your work.


A key responsibility will be supporting senior developers and project leads to complete key tasks contributing towards wider deliverables to ensure safe and robust improvements into operation.


You will be required to use your technical knowledge to trouble shoot incidents, identify issues, implement fixes or workarounds, and consider approach to software delivery with the support from the wider team.


The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the management of data, and the principles and approaches that influence their performance.

You will be located at our Warton site in Lancashire but whilst the ongoing restrictions in relation to the pandemic are in place, the team is working from home.



Role Requirements:

The role will provide Technical leadership of a small agile data team delivering high quality solutions to business problems within the Air Sector as part of the Business Intelligence and Analytics Competency Centre (BIACC). As part of the BIACC You will work closely with other agile data and visualization teams reporting into the Data Exploitation and Services Manager.


Your experience and leadership qualities will empower your team to achieve their best. You will act as a mentor to the junior members nurturing them and enabling their development.


The successful candidate will have excellent knowledge of IM&T systems providing direction and guidance as to potential approaches and solutions to business requirements and understand the technical aspects influencing good design and performance. 


You will be required to undertake and provide leadership of tasks contributing to the successful delivery of projects and remediation of faults within service solutions. Using your experience to trouble shoot development, identify issues, implement fixes or workarounds, and take ownership of root cause analysis of the incident. Escalating to senior management of the BIACC where appropriate.


You will have a good understanding of how your activities integrate into the activities of the wider technical teams within the BIACC and IM&T including an understanding of the work of the architectural design team.


The candidate will require good communication skills and be customer focused; must understand technical instructions and be able to communicate technical information to others



Essential Experience:

    Understanding of IT systems and the principles and approaches that influence their performanceKnowledge and experience relevant to creating design specifications, modelling data, testing, validating, deploying and supporting data management in an agile mannerExperience with some of the following; ETL technologies, SQL, TSQL, Data Dictionary creation and management data cataloguing, data quality management and principles and policies within the data layerTranslate business requirements and rules into technical design specificationsWork with tabular, multidimensional and relational data sets to create conformed data modelsRecord and monitor development activities in a change management databaseInvestigate and respond to incidents in a timely and responsive manner ensuring breeches of service level agreements do not take place achieved within an ITIL FrameworkOversee and contribute to the creation of user guides and standard operating procedures in support of solutions created by the team


Desirable:

    Experience with Data Virtualisation, Application of data quality principles, SSIS, warehousing/vaultsKnowledge and understanding of the data needs of BI and analytics toolsets. SQL Server 2016 ??? 2019 Familiarity with Backup and Restore, and configuration of SQL server, User administration Roles, database sizing.
