We're looking for someone dynamic, ambitious and eager to make an impact to become our next Principal Systems Engineer.

Overall department direction
Defence Systems and Technology, Mission Systems, Critical Communications provides support to the MoD for various key communications and training systems in the UK and abroad.

This Principal Systems Engineer (Secure Communications) post will be primarily based in Devonport Plymouth or Ashton House Bristol.

Main purpose of role
To undertake Principal Systems Engineering (SE) activities and produce technical information in support of all Mission System - Secure Communications projects and new business opportunities across the SE lifecycle.

To deliver tasks allocated to them which will encompass the following areas of competency:
System concepts, System capability issues, Enterprise and technology environment, Determining and managing stakeholder requirements, Architectural design, Concept generation, Design for attributes, such as safety, security, ARM, etc, Functional analysis, Interface management, Maintain design integrity, Modelling and simulation, Preferred solution selection, System robustness, Systems integration, verification, and validation and Transition to operation

You will provide engineering expertise in the military communications domain and associated IT network/Infrastructure.

To support Bid/Proposal Managers for the following:
New business development supporting feasibility studies, support to competitor analysis, responding to pre-qualifying questionnaires (PQQ)/invitations to tender (ITT) and attending related internal/external meetings; Follow technical enquiries through the business acquisition process, taking responsibility for areas of expertise;To develop and write sections of proposals relating to area of expertise; Interfacing with potential sub-contractors to identify technical solutions for specific system requirements.

You will also provide Engineering management expertise and functional management of Systems Engineers, Engineers, Graduates and apprentices.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences
You will require excellent communication Skills both verbal and written as well as experience of MoD working practices and experience of System Acceptance & Installation Acceptance.

You should also have considerable knowledge of Engineering discipline. ((Electrical/ Electronic/ Mechanical/Information Systems / Communication Systems/ Engineering)

We would also like you to have the following:
• Knowledge of or experience in commissioning communications systems and shore facilities.
• Knowledge of or experience in network installation and configuration.
• Knowledge of or experience in Computer System operating systems.

Qualifications
Preferably a degree qualified, chartered engineer or working towards chartered status within a recognised and relevant professional body. Alternatively the SE may hold an HNC/D or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline in concert with significant and demonstrable subject matter expertise in the system domain.

What else do I need to know?
• The successful candidate will hold, or be eligible to acquire, Security Clearance at the appropriate level for this post.
• Passport, Licences and Qualifications must be shown at interview stage.

Grade
This position is within the Technology business unit as a PC, with DRDL Terms and Conditions.
