We're looking for someone dynamic, ambitious and eager to make an impact to become our next Technical Services Manager.

We are looking for a dynamic, ambitious and commercially aware Technical Services Manager to join our high performing team. Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for managing a team of technicians delivering the repair and technical support of tactical radio communications equipment supporting the UK armed forces. The role includes responsibility for managing and developing our dedicated repair facility and technical services, including liaison with key suppliers and original equipment manufacturers, always with the aim of providing world class support and performance of the equipment and services supported by the team. The role will also manage a small team of configuration managers ensuring the status and configuration of the equipment is fully understood and documented in line with the high standards our customers expect.

The difference our new Technical Services Manager will make Defence Systems Technology (DST) is transforming and we need you to support our drive for growth, leading a high performing team through exciting, but sometimes challenging situations. You'll play a key role in delivering and growing our contracts and building strong customer relationships, implementing our ambitious strategy.

You will be responsible for technical services and equipment screening and repair management activities including, but not limited to:

Establishing and operating a dedicated radio communications equipment screening and repair workshop; Management of a team of technicians and configuration managers; Establishing and delivering a dedicated Technical Logistics Support Helpdesk which will provide expert product and service support 24/7 with access to further technical expert support; Developing a suite of logistics support question aids, including Frequently Asked Questions and Known Issues Logs to expedite and automate functions of our Logistics Support Service and deliver high standards of response and resolution performance; Providing a formalised continuous improvement process and developing a formal support services Continuous Improvement Plan; Delivering radio communications equipment functional testing and compliancy verification; Delivering systematic approach and improvements to Fault Finding procedures and practices to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery and reduce the occurrence of No Fault Found and unnecessary equipment attrition; Ensuring effective performance management of services and resources; Management of Incidents and Issues with in-scope equipment; Identification of equipment performance trends and opportunities to improve performance and reduce total cost of ownership for our customers.

Who we're looking for The role would suit a suitably experienced and qualified radio and communications professional with experience of delivering professional technical services including a 24/7 helpdesk, configuration control, obsolescence management and expert response services, both through dedicated resources, and via reach back into support partners and original equipment manufacturers. Knowledge of running a radio communications equipment repair workshop in accordance with List CX and Crypto restrictions would also be advantageous.

Experience Knowledge of MoD Operating processes / procedures; Good communication skills, to engage with Suppliers / Customers on a technical data management level; Working knowledge of finances with an ability to use in building business cases, staff utilisation and headcount; Experienced in the use of Waterfall techniques using a stage-gate process and Agile in a CM/DM context; Experience of industry-standard tools (e.g. PDM - Windchill, Teamcenter, ERP - IFS, Oracle) including their introduction and integration within an enterprise-wide system; Understanding of the IT infrastructure and integration of tools and processes for technical services; Knowledge of Continuous improvement techniques and practices; Able to achieve Developed Vetting security clearance.
Skills and attributes A self-motivator with good communication and organisational skills; Strong Team Player; Candidates must be driven to complete tasks to the benefit of the project for time, cost and quality; Candidates must have a strong H&S ethic; A flexible approach and able to adapt quickly to work flow change in order to meet equipment availability targets; Able to fault find and recommend repair requirements; Good attention to detail, meticulous and systematic; Ability to assess risk; Strong organisational skills; Self-motivated and willing to work independently; Can work under pressure; Able to form good working relationships with both other employees and clients.

Physical Requirements You should be able to identify colours, particularly when working with electrical wiring; be able to complete a day's site work including some physical exertion and be willing to work variable hours (if required).

Education and qualifications Degree/HND/HNC in Electrical/ Electronic Engineering or Equivalent Practical Experience
