The Opportunity

We are looking to appoint a new Software Engineer to join an established, highly skilled and dynamic team at the Haslar Marine Technology Park. You will work as part of the Software discipline to develop and maintain software products for customers within Defence & National Security sector.

The Software discipline supports a broad range of capabilities from designing submarines to providing cyber-security services and is at the forefront of developing innovative software solutions to meet the demanding requirements of customers and partner organisations.

You'll join a group of professional software developers and engineers who work across the land, sea, air and space domains of the business. The teams use the latest software development technologies and techniques to develop innovative software solutions and you'll be integrated into a dynamic and fast-paced development environment. You will work as a member of a Scrum Agile development team, with the opportunity to contribute to the design, development, and deployment of software systems.

Duties Include:

  • Writing statistical and geometric functions in C++
  • Working with, writing and error-checking Lua scripts of 3D transforms
  • Using software to analyse radar performance
  • Writing functions in R to analyse radar tracks
  • Designing user interfaces in C#
  • Writing error-correcting codes in MATLAB
  • Other ad hoc tasks such as consultancy

The Fit

You will hold a Degree in a technology, engineering or mathematics subject and demonstrate previous experience of using MATLAB and C++, ideally within an Agile environment. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and energetic, with a strong drive to ensure successful outcomes.

We are also open to those with a general software engineering background with a passion for IT who are willing to learn and have demonstrated an aptitude for learning at pace. You will able to keep up to date with emerging technologies, embrace new ways of working and most importantly a drive to deliver high-quality products.

You will work within a collaborative environment alongside experienced Engineers who will be able to offer advice and support if required, therefore MATLAB experience may not necessarily be essential if you can provide previous relevant experience and the ability to learn new technologies.
