We are looking for a Team Leader to lead our C4 Systems Integration Team within Dstl’s Cyber & Information Systems Division:

Can you lead a team of Communications and Information Systems specialists in pursuit of delivering exploitable and meaningful research for the benefit of Defence?

The C4SI (PTN) Team is focussed on research and delivering consultancy support advice in policy and processes integration of communication systems solutions.

As Team Leader you will provide a balance of technical and professional leadership for your team, ensuring that people are developed to meet current and future demands whilst delivering research in a dynamic environment. This is an opportunity to play your part in shaping the future of this key technical area.

Job description

In this role you’ll:

• Develop & sustain capability (people relationships, infrastructure, knowledge, licences to practice) to provide technical/scientific contribution to current and future projects across Dstl through effective use of the Team's resources/expertise:
• Maintain awareness of current and future demand requirements
• Understand and use the different resource options to ensure an appropriate mix of team members.
• Understand and effectively develop capability to align with Division Capability plans
• Build resilience through succession planning, including developing future leaders
• Have direct Line management of a team of ca.15 Team Members:
• Enable effective performance management and development of team members
• Allocate employees to tasks or projects based on requirements
• Coach and support Team Members career and personal development.
• Ensure that people have the necessary skills and competencies for the tasks assigned
• Ensure your team have knowledge of and conform to all safety and security and resilience requirements.
• Build employees engagement and create an environment which nurtures excellence through:
• Set the direction for team, including how the team fits with strategic aims;
• Create a positive and inclusive working environment that aligns with Dstl Values, Champion diversity and enable employees to excel
• Communicate and own difficult messages;
• Challenge and address poor performance
• Recognise and highlight high performance,
• Network with other Team Leaders and stakeholders to share good practice and ensure a coherent approach.
• Implement Dstl's policies and ensure compliance with the Management System.
• Provide individual technical/professional contribution as agreed with your Line Manager.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours and Experience.

Sifting will take place shortly after the closing date. Interviews are scheduled to take place in w/c 12th January.

Interviews will consist of a variety of behavioural and technical questions. You will also be required to deliver a 10 minute presentation on, ‘How will you empower your team to deliver innovative & impactful products & services to meet the current and future needs of our customers’.
