Duration: 3 months [initially]

EXCLUSIVE OPPORTUNITY: Intelligent Resource is currently recruiting for an experienced Storage and Back-Up Architect to support in the end to end life cycle management of Server storage solutions, at a key Aerospace client based in Newport, on an initial three (3) month contract.

On client's instructions, due to the urgency, nature and length of the assignment, the successful candidate must have current security clearance to a high level.

Overview:

The Storage and Back-Up Architect will support in the end to end life cycle management of Server storage solutions, in accordance to the clients business requirements (hot, cold, performance, retention, technology, etc.). This will involve design and implementation of storage solutions in line with the client's business requirements and maintenance and fault resolution of new and existing storage solutions. The role will also include providing support to the backup service team, in accordance to business requirements, on platforms monitored and managed. They will monitor and analyse performance of the storage infrastructure and all related components using the provided/native vendor toolset from an end-to-end perspective and be responsible for the decommissioning and erasing of all data from storage securely when required.

Key Responsibilities

Storage

Providing storage

  • Designing/defining storage solutions to meet the clients requirements
  • Provide hardware installation, server and service support and monitoring and operational acceptance of new implementations into service
  • manage storage allocation, and utilisation and forecast and report requirements for additional capacity
  • Establish network connection with LAN/ WAN and establish network connection for FO, SAN, etc.
  • Ensure high availability solution design & deployment, and correct operation of fail overs through regular testing and auditing.

Operating storage

  • Provide privacy management (dedicated/ shared)
  • Execute performance management (flash drives/ full flash, latency)
  • Perform security management (public/ restricted/ secret/ top secret)
  • Provide SAN - NAS - LUN management
  • Conduct fine-tuning
  • Provide hardware/ software maintenance, support maintenance/ repairing processes
  • Perform storage/ data restorations
  • Manage trouble tickets and request to resolution in line with service SLA's

Back-Up

Providing backup

  • Design Configure and setup backup solutions in line with client business requirements
  • Configure and setup backup to tape/ physically isolated storage
  • Define backup perimeter regarding image and application
  • Install (e.g. real time mirror, replication, etc.), maintain and support backup software products

Operating backup

  • Manage external storage media library, operations and administration
  • Support hardware/ software maintenance processes
  • Perform backups in accordance with the client's policies in place
  • Execute restoration (file/ image/ bare-metal restoration (environments/ applications)) of full server image
  • Perform retention management (RTO/ RPO)
  • Test restoration output
  • Ensure security compliance
  • Perform recovery tests, as required and in accordance with policies
  • Provide archiving of backed-up data

Providing archiving solution

  • Define and execute long term backup strategy
  • Test restoration plan
  • Check for data integrity of restored data
  • Sustain archiving infrastructure

Further Responsibilities:

  • Maintains backup procedures and records for tape rotation
  • Monitors backups and investigate any failures
  • Create backup plans and perform backups according to business requirements
  • Commissions new/replacement backup devices as required
  • Handle all data storage according to Security Policies
  • Disaster Recovery Planning

Essential Skills

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Experience applying ITIL methodology
  • Able to work as part of a small team
  • Experience in Active Directory administration
  • Experience of NAC Services, file access management and disaster recovery planning
  • NetApp
  • Data Protector

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of Storage Technologies
  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN Technologies
  • Willing to work out of hours and attend remote sites
  • Experience working in virtualised environment
  • Some experience of application support
