THE OPPORTUNITY

 

A Project Engineering Lead (PEL) is required to join the Integrated Mission Solutions (IMS) sector of the EW line of business. This engineering lead role will be split across contract delivery and business winning, providing engineering direction and leadership for a number of customers and end users.

 

Throughout a bid, the Project Engineering Lead will be responsible for the engineering technical solution, for collating the engineering costs and for successful execution of the required design/cost reviews.

 

For project delivery, the Project Engineering Lead will be responsible for the engineering design, schedule, budget and milestone adherence.

 

The PEL will work under the guidance of the Project Engineering Manager (PEM). They will work closely with the Customer/End User and internal stakeholders to agree the optimal technical solution and manage the engineering deliverables.

 

The PEL will also be responsible for creating/updating Engineering Management Plans and ensuring that the engineering aspects of the projects are delivered in accordance with company Life Cycle Management processes, company and legislative standards, and be responsible for the planning and managing the maturity design reviews.

Key Responsibility Areas

 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

 

  • Management of the Engineering technical quality, schedule and budget
  • Management of multi-disciplined engineering teams, comprising primarily of Software and Systems engineers, working in an agile methodology ensuring that roles within the teams are clearly defined
  • Establish and maintain good lines of communication across the Engineering IPT, to the IPT lead, functional heads and to the Customer engineering team
  • Working alongside the Customer to define a design solution that best fits the end user requirement within their budgetary needs
  • Management of Customer expectations in line with agreed solution
  • Ensure that the design rationale is documented
  • Control project configuration and change management to ensure design reuse is maximised.
  • Lead business winning opportunities from an engineering point of view within the IMS sector
  • Identifying technical risks and mitigation strategies
  • Support the management of Suppliers and project Make/ Buy decisions as required
  • Candidate concept solutions are captured, including the results of any trade off studies and end user engagement
  • Travel within the UK and aboard, working alongside other teams within Leonardo, Customers, End Users and Industry Partners.

 

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

 

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

 

You really must have:

 

  • Strong technical / engineering background within the Software, Systems domain
  • Good schedule and budget control
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Strong leadership, but can also demonstrate team working skills
  • Knowledge of the engineering lifecycles and business process
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and how to apply them to a range of projects

 

It would be nice if you had:

 

  • Experience of managing projects in an Agile environment
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in an engineering / technical subject
  • Good problem-solving ability
  • Understanding of Electronic Warfare Operational Support
  • Understanding of training development and ideally mission data
