Job description

In this role you will:
• Support the non-corporate Information Systems (IS) Programme network infrastructure, network modelling, simulation environments, and VMware network environments.
• Work under the Information Systems Experimentation and Enablers (ISEE) project based in the Dstl Information Systems Research Centre (ISRC).
• Conduct tests, experiments, trials and analysis to assess how technology options can enable appropriate communication capabilities for our customers.
• Clearly and concisely report on findings to customers and stakeholders.
• Exploit novel S&T concepts in the development of MOD’s tactical communication military systems to ensure availability of state of the art equipment for the UK military and collaborative partners.
• Use creativity and innovation to contribute to the success of research projects within the C4 domain.
• Ensure technical quality and improve the value of Dstl’s research through effective collaboration and partnering with relevant external bodies such as international partners or academia, as well as within government.
• Use expertise in Defence, C4 and Security sectors to generate innovative concepts and find opportunities for further work.
• Advise across Government, including potentially briefing senior officials to ensure robust decision-making within government.
• Provide meticulous review of process and outputs to ensure the quality of the research we deliver.

Essential
We expect technical / scientific experience drawn from two or more of the following core skills, including:
• Understand the conceptual ISO 7-Layer model with a focus on layers 1 to 4 (physical, data-link, network and transport).
• Design and plan network infrastructure.
• System Management of network simulation environments
• Knowledge of the ISRC systems.
• User requirements analysis
• Providing advice to research projects on suitable specifications of equipment for planned research.
• Operate and maintain the network infrastructure

Qualifications

Essential
A degree or equivalent in one of the following
• computer science
• computer software/computer systems engineering
• computer systems and networks
• electrical/electronic engineering
• mathematics
• network security management
