Datalink Engineering Expert

 

LOCATION: Brussels, Belgium /Bretigny, France

CLIENT: EUROCONTROL

CONTRACT: Consultant

SALARY: Negotiable daily rate

WORK HOURS: Monday to Friday, normal working hours

TASKS

  • Support the Datalink Support Group (DSG), Datalink Performance Monitoring Group (DPMG) and other meetings as required, while preparing the EUROCONTROL contributions;
  • Actively participate in the DSG Datalink Support Team work, leading the resolution of tickets in the DSG Top Priority List (TPL), in coordination with the stakeholders;
  • Using EUROCONTROL monitoring and analysis tools; diagnose and resolve reported problems in the JIRA datalink database;
  • Analyse and evaluate impacts and potential issues of proposals recommended to resolve identified issues;
  • Analyse and check compliance of behaviour and performance of current network implementations and equipment with agreed standards and identify divergences;
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, including problem investigation and resolution;
  • Represent EUROCONTROL, as needed and at request, in industry activities/meetings ;
  • Support interoperability testing and validation exercises of the datalink usage;
  • Take minutes of technical meetings and develop record of technical discussions;
  • Draft presentations for delivery in internal and external meetings;
  • Draft technical papers, procedures and proposals for standards updates and/or establishment in relevant bodies (AEEC, EURCAE/RTCA and or ICAO);
  • Develop proposals for optimisation, design and evolution of the VDL2 datalink network and architecture over VHF and other wireless links (SATCOM, AeroMACS, LDACS, …);
  • Other relevant tasks considering the EUROCONTROL involvement and strategic priorities in datalink

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Mandatory

  • The proposed consultants shall have a University degree in Telecommunications Systems (Engineering or Physics or Information Technology) and a specialisation or training in, Mobile communications and/or communication network architectures and interfaces
  • Work well with computers and MS Office applications and in particular Word, PowerPoint, Excel and be able to use databases and analyse data
  • Draft technical documents
  • Experts shall demonstrate at least two years’ experience in the domain of aeronautical communications and aviation datalink or protocols or experience in lab and field testing of equipment and or technical investigations is required.

Desirable:

  • Specialisation in aviation mobile communications
  • The proposed consultants may demonstrate experience in telecommunication software development and in integration and lab testing of telecommunication software
