The day job
We are looking for a Linux Application Support Engineer with hands-on experience of supporting applications on Linux based Operating Systems and associated technologies. 
You will be providing 2nd and 3rd line support in a very dynamic business environment.

Working as part of a dedicated Applications Support team, you will be required to work alongside developers and vendors in providing support for current deployed web applications and provide support to future projects deploying new applications, providing technical knowledge and feedback when required.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Apply development changes/Product updates on production where applicable.
  • Develop scripts for execution of commonly used processes and automation of simple tasks.
  • Apply problem-solving skills in a mixed operating system environment to support assignments.
  • Partner closely with development groups, infrastructure support groups, and vendors to coordinate operations, and communicate/escalate problems as appropriate to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Diagnose problems with applications and provide prompt recovery and problem resolution.
  • Work closely with support groups to refine system monitoring and reporting, and to assist them in their analysis and problem recovery.
  • Proper creation, execution, documentation, and closure of tasks, changes, and service requests as required.

Essential skills required:

  • Good knowledge of Application installation and troubleshooting on Linux base system.
  • CentOS / Redhat Linux
  • Web Layer experience such as Apache, Tomcat
  • Shell Scripting/BASH, Python  - Knowledge of scripts for automation
  • Git, Bitbucket, Jira, Azure DevOps/TFS
  • Appreciation for security (best practice and tools)
  • Understanding of system and problem management tools.
  • Problem solving.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Passion for learning new skills & very self-motivated 

Desirable skills (Although cross-training will be provided for the right person):

  • Web languages & applications
  • SQL
  • Certificate management
  • Monitoring and logs management, SCCM/SCOM
  • Manage and support existing and new CI/CD Pipeline (jobs, builds) and their associated test environments.
  • Help improve the automation of the build, unit and integration tests with the development and QA team.
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies
  • Experience with Load balancing technologies such as HAProxy
