Leonardo is a global leader in defence electronics and delivers mission critical systems for situational awareness, electronic warfare and surveillance across land, sea and air.
Working within Leonardo's Radar and Advanced Targeting line of business based in Edinburgh, opportunity has arisen for a Systems Test Engineer to join the Airborne AESA Radar group to work on surveillance Radar system test, integration and qualification.
This position requires attention to detail and the ability to operate effectively with engineers drawn from a diverse group of engineering disciplines. The work is technically demanding, requiring the successful candidate to rapidly develop skills in system operation, integration and debug within the operational complexities of modern airborne Active Electronically Scanned Array Radar systems.
Key Responsibility Areas
The candidate will be required to make technical decisions within their own sphere of influence. They will undertake various tasks within an Integrated Project Team, including:
System acceptance testing in accordance with published procedures
Verification of the system and sub-system requirements including test System integration through close collaboration with software, firmware and hardware teams
System and sub-system qualification testing including completion of qualification test reports
Active participation in test readiness and post-test reviews
Defining, investigating and helping to resolve system issues
Provide Radar operation lab based demonstrations to customers and industry partners
Integrate complex sub-systems onto flight test aircraft and support subsequent flight trials
Support in-field platform integration including system software upgrades
Ensure all defined working practices are adhered to
Update general risk assessments as required to ensure lab safety
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required
HND/HNC level qualification (or equivalent) in a STEM related subject
Practical experience of engineering within a commercial environment or an equivalent research and development organisation
Experience of verification and validation activities to achieve certification and delivery
Practical experience of AESA Radar operation would be an advantage and considered for a promoted grade
Use of GPTE is essential, spectrum analysers, oscilloscopes, signal generators etc.
An ability to interact with the end user communities on a range of technical and operational topics
Excellent written and verbal presentation ability delivering high quality output The candidate should be proficient in using MS-Office applications
Familiarity with MATLAB would be advantageous
IOSH certification would be advantageous but full training would be given
The role is initially based at the Leonardo offices in Edinburgh, UK with occasional travel within the UK and worldwide to our customer and end-user sites
Must be able to obtain SC security check
