Here within our Asylum Accommodation and Support Services Contract (AASC) we focus on assisting individuals through the asylum system, ensuring that vulnerable asylum seekers have access to the support they need along with accommodation. In the two regions that Serco operates there are currently approximately 20,000 asylum seekers living in more than 5,000 properties - and as our Electrician you'll be a part of a team helping to ensure we maintain those properties to high quality and safety standards.

In this role you'll provide specialist electrical expertise and guidance to the operation; supporting the other maintenance operatives across the Midlands and East of England in:
  • Fault finding and rectification
  • The installation or repairs to emergency lighting and fire alarm systems
  • PAT testing and preventative maintenance tasks
  • Ensuring that all maintenance repairs and planned maintenance are carried out in line with relevant legislation/regulation,
  • Working with external suppliers and sub-contractors

In short you'll be a key member of the field operations team. You won't be doing this alone, however. As well as working with supportive colleagues who are passionate about the work we do, you'll also receive ongoing training and development and a competitive benefits package.

What you need to do the job

For this role you'll need a minimum of a Level 3 in Electrical Installation (NVQ) along with experience of Inspection and Testing, with a 2391 or equivalent. Fire and Emergency Lighting experience would be a considerable advantage although not essential. As our properties are based across a wide region you must have a full UK Driving Licence and a willingness to travel.

Lastly, because of the nature of the work, all offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the Home Office and you must be able to pass a CRB Clearance and Security Clearance at CTC level (Counter Terrorism Check).
