HMP Lowdham Grange, Nottinghamshire

Part-Time (Flexible)/ Permanent

Up to £19,380 per annum + Benefits

Here at Serco we're looking for a Public Protection Officer to join us at HMP Lowdham Grange on a flexible part-time basis. You will provide administrative and secretarial support to the Public Protection Unit in line with prescribed procedures and policies. This will include working to identify potentially dangerous offenders, ensuring that appropriate action is taken whilst in custody to reduce their risk of serious harm and contributing to the goals and vision of the Reducing Reoffending function.

Your main priorities will involve creating and maintaining public protection files, sending these onto receiving establishments or archiving where appropriate. You will conduct initial high-risk checks on all new prisoner arrivals into the establishment and send each file onto the relevant department, answer prisoner questions and applications where needed and contact the general public regarding public protection measures where necessary.

What you'll need to do the role

First and foremost, you'll need to have worked in a similar role with Public Protection being at the forefront, alternatively we will also consider those that have at least 2 years' experience in a strong admin position. It would be advantageous if you've worked within a commercial environment and very desirable if you have worked within a custodial setting.

The successful applicant will be computer literate, able to work on their own initiative, approachable, efficient and reliable. We are looking for someone that can communicate at all levels, build strong working relationships and be a successful part of an ever-growing team.

As part of this you'll:
  • Send relevant public protection notifications for high-risk offenders, including those identified as presenting a risk to children, prolific offenders, sex offenders, those requiring management under multi-agency public protection arrangements, and those subject to restrictions where harassment procedures apply.
  • Take the minutes at Interdepartmental Risk Management Team meeting and any MAPPA meetings then update prisoner files with accordingly with all information.
  • Request and provide information from and to external agencies where appropriate, including the Probation Service, the Police and Social Services.
  • Check the Public Protection Files of offenders received into the establishment and flag to colleagues or action where appropriate any risk information.
