The IRB Department provides a 24hr telephone/radio helpline to the Force and deals with real time requests from operational officers relating to ongoing incidents and enquiries. IRB operators work in small teams and are responsible for creating and maintaining accurate, timely and comprehensive criminal records on the Police National Computer (PNC). They are also skilled at the in depth researching of a wide range of applications including Social Media, Police National Database, Niche, National Firearms Licensing System (NFLMS) and Driver Validation System (DVS) and then disseminating the relevant information. The IRB is a busy, pressurised environment with the work both challenging and rewarding for its staff.

You will be educated to a good standard including excellent numeric and literacy skills which must be evidenced in your application form. Attention to detail and accuracy is essential, whilst using your own initiative to analyse and resolve problems when they arise. You must be highly self motivated, have the ability to work as part of a busy team under pressure and be flexible in your approach to working tasks and hours. You should have experience of and the ability to use computers with a wide variety of IT applications and a proven ability of inputting data accurately and quickly.

You will work a three shift pattern, covering the 24hr period (07:00-16:00, 12:00-22:00, 22:00-07:00), to ensure that an effective and timely service is provided to support operational policing.

Along with all other posts in Force Crime, Intelligence and Specialist Operations Departments, this role will require an enhanced level of vetting.
