Safety Engineer

My client is a specialist Safety and Environmental Consultancy who provide a service to customers throughout the UK and are ideally seeking individuals from a maritime, land or weapons background to join their team.

Key Requirements

*Ideally, you will come from a technical engineering military background, with several years' relevant experience providing technical support and engineering management in your specialist area
*You will have ideally reached middle management level (Leading Hand / PO / Corporal) within your respective branch of the forces, with relevant experience of practical risk assessment and safety management in the workplace
*To best support ongoing activities, you will have a working knowledge of safety management within the sea systems, land systems and weapons management domains
*Knowledge of MoD and civilian standards, in particular the relevant Def-Stans, JSPs, DSA requirements and civil standards
*Ship Safety and Environmental Management Training (SEMT) or SSMO Course desirable

Job Responsibilities

*The primary role of the successful candidate will be to assist with the development of Safety Cases and other Safety Management tasks on behalf of MoD clients
*Safety Management tasks could include (but not be limited to):
oThe development and production of Safety Cases for Ships, Aircraft, Land Systems, armaments, and associated sub systems and equipment
oHazard Identification (HAZID), Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP) and Structured What If Technique (SWIFT) analysis
oRisk Assessment and Hazard Sentencing
oThe development and implementation of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Safety Management Plans (SMP)
oData input and management of hazard logs onto MoD software systems including HARMS, SMARTer, HLET and eCassandra
*Compliance and implementation of work in accordance with the Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001)
*Regular visits will be required to Bristol and to contractor and customer sites further afield within the UK
