About the role:
Here at Babcock International we are looking to recruit an experienced Finite Element Analysis professional to join our Energy & Marine business to provide subject matter expertise in the field of Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and to lead the capability development of FEA in multiple engineering disciplines and across the E&M UK sites. Develop analysis processes and systems in support of the strategic direction of the business. Support resource managers in the identification, delivery and evaluation of FEA training.

Main Purpose of Role:
We are looking for a suitably qualified individual to lead on the capability development of FEA across all UK sites, this will entail leading in the execution and delivery of complex stress analysis tasks. We will also be looking for the FEA subject matter expert to develop E&M engineers to undertake stress analysis at all levels of complexity as well as provide SME guidance in all aspects of FE analysis.

The successful candidate will support the identification & implementation of improved engineering processes to enhance analysis capability as well as ensuring the technical integrity and quality of analysis services provided. You will also support bidding and business winning as required in line with FEA commercial opportunities.

From a "hands on" FEA perspective you will apply engineering governance and act as the Technical Authority on specific projects, and foster links and maintain good working relationships within the technical teams, customer community, industry and the wider Babcock to enable effective use of capability

What do I need to do the role?
The role is the subject matter expert for the FEA subject area and requires deep professional expertise, knowledge & experience. You should be a chartered Engineer and Member of relevant institute, possess an engineering degree (or BTEC equivalent qualification in relevant engineering discipline with significant demonstrable experience), and have substantial demonstrable post degree experience. NAFEMS membership and PSE registration would be advantageous.

The role will require excellent communication skills and the ability to train others, as well as represent the company at a senior level.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable expertise in advanced FEA analysis and a desire to knowledge share and improve the capability of the team. Analysis will be predominately using ANSYS Workbench, for the analysis of linear and non-linear, static and dynamic, structural, thermodynamic, in time and vibration domains and multi-physics environment, performing analytical studies for analysing the mechanism of kinematics, dynamics, and force analysis.

The successful candidate will have proven experience in implementing robust verification and validation processes for stress analysis and experience in training and development of engineers in the field of stress analysis.

The post holder will have the ability to generate appropriate analytical methodologies for the optimisation of stress analysis studies and produce appropriately justified technical solutions, interpreting and converting analysis results into practical design outputs.

The ability to, and experience of, whole ship modelling, including the ability to undertake sub modelling of large/complex models for discrete focused analysis would be advantageous.

The role requires the ability to work flexibly and travel frequently within the UK. Base office location can be either Plymouth, Bristol or Rosyth.

The post holder will report to an Engineering Capability Manager or a regional Chief Engineer (dependent on location)

The post holder will have no line management responsibilities
