Job Details

British Transport Police (BTP) is the national police force for the rail network in England, Scotland and Wales. Every day we ensure the safety and security of over six million passengers and railway staff.

In response to the increased UK threat level from international terrorism, and to ensure we have the right level of resources to respond to any threat, we are significantly increasing our Specialist Operations capacity in the Midlands and North West. This is your opportunity to join a modern and forward-thinking force in a highly-trained role as one of our Specialist Operations officers trained to spot the signs of criminal intent.

Our specially-trained officers work closely with colleagues from Specialist Operations and other parts of BTP, external agencies and other police forces to develop and deploy Project Servator tactics across BTP. We use Project Servator to disrupt a wide range of criminal activity on the rail network while providing a reassuring presence for the travelling public.

You will plan and participate in intelligence-led operations involving high-visibility and plain-clothed officers and other policing assets designed specifically for the rail environment. You will work with our partners to engage with our communities and stakeholders, conduct vehicle stop checks and person checks, and disrupt terrorist and criminal activity on the rail system.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate experience and a genuine affinity with proactive plain-clothes work, and should be equally confident in engaging with the public, offering reassurance and encouraging the public and partners to act as our extra eyes and ears. You should also have a good knowledge of CT operations and legislation. Candidates must be prepared to undertake enhanced vetting within BTP, and to attend and pass role-specific training prior to being operational in the role.

Initial eligibility criteria

Before the BTP progresses your application, consideration will be given to a number of initial eligibility criteria. Therefore, please be aware of the following before completing an application:

  • Those applying on a transferee basis must currently be serving in a Home Office police force and be substantive in the rank of Constable, having completed the full probationary service.
  • Those applying to re-join service must have previously served as a member of a Home Office police force, having satisfactorily completed the period of probationary service in the rank of constable and resigned or retired from that force.
  • Candidates must have no current findings of guilt for complaints or discipline
You will not be eligible to apply if you have an existing CCJ or IVA outstanding against you. Applicants who have been registered bankrupt will not be considered. Failure to disclose any of the above will lead to your application being rejected.

Applicants with a criminal record will be reviewed on a case by case basis, but may be rejected from the process dependent on the date and nature of the conviction. You are encouraged to email recruitmentteam@btp.pnn.police.uk if you have any queries on previous convictions.

How to Apply:

Please submit an online application form by clicking the 'Apply' button, below. You will also be required to upload copies of your most recent completed PDR. Please be advised that we do not accept CV's.

Potential start dates are expected in April 2021.
