Future Systems Modelling Engineer

£50000 to £55'000 approx.

Home Counties

Want to work on the design and development of state of the art future RF, surveillance and reconnaissance systems? An international Aerospace & Defence company is seeking several talented engineers with experience in Systems Engineering Design and Modelling (using tools like MATLAB and Simulink among others) to join them in their offices which are in the Home Counties, less than an hour from London. If successful you'll be a part of a team providing world-leading, responsive, and user-centric solutions including threat warning and emitter location sensors, and Defensive Aids System (DAS) controllers, which enable the seamless integration of otherwise independent sensing and countermeasure DAS systems. All these systems provide unparalleled situational awareness and protection for the men and women that rely on them to help them in their missions for the RAF and MoD.

What you'll do:

  • Work with both internal & external stakeholders to understand user needs and requirements with which to define and influence system requirements and designs, ensuring traceability for design compliance and acceptance.
  • Define and develop system concepts and architectures for future solutions.
  • Develop test strategies to demonstrate design and implementation compliance, ensuring end-to-end traceability to achieve certification.
  • Lead system integration, verification, and validation activities to test and analyse performance and effectiveness within synthetic and live environments.
  • Perform technical peer reviews and provide mentoring in areas of expertise.
  • Develop and deliver engineering specifications, reports and presentations to customers and industry partners.
  • Travel within the UK to meet with our customers and industry partners.

What we NEED from you:

  • A strong understanding of systems engineering principles and highly experienced in whole lifecycle product development and delivery.
  • A firm understanding of the key principles associated with RF signal propagation for passive sensors or active emitters.
  • Ability to define and influence requirements definition and design decisions, both within the internal project team and customer environments.
  • Ability to define test and acceptance criteria and assess system design compliance against user and system requirements.
  • High proficiency in requirements management using DOORS.
  • Self-motivated with a strong aptitude for problem-solving and decision-making within projects involving design complexity and uncertainty.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation ability.
  • Undergraduate Engineering degree or related scientific discipline.

What we'd LOVE to see from you:

  • Knowledge of RF sensor systems (passive and/or active), including signal processing methods for detection, measurement, identification, and countermeasure.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Defensive Aids Systems, Radar, EO/IR technology, performance, and operational capabilities.
  • Experience in using MATLAB and Simulink

What we'll give you:

  • Industry Distinction:
  • You will be at the forefront of significant UK defence programme that will help keep our forces and our country safe both now and in the years to come
  • Influence:
  • You will be able to help shape the next generation of sensor and communication systems for the state of the art airborne platforms of the future.
  • Investment in your Learning & Development :
  • Throughout your career here you'll be supported in your ongoing professional development through training and mentoring.
  • Flexible Working:
  • Along with many other perks and benefits
  • To be a part of something special:
  • We are proud of our rich heritage in the UK defence sector, and we continue to be a dependable and respected ally to the MoD.

** Fortunately this company's projects are much less affected by the current COVID-19 situation than many other companies' projects, due to the long term nature of the project they're handling for the MoD. This makes this a particularly great any opportunity for anyone currently finding themselves out of work or furloughed. As it is a business-critical position, this is a hire that needs to be made regardless of the current pandemic. **
